Hi TAs !
Is there a good public transportation system in LA and San Francisco ? Or does one need a car to get anywhere within these two cities ??
Thank you ! |

In LA, you can take the Metro buses, but you'd need to call their operators to find out how to get where you want to go....or you can also plan out your routes by going to http://www.mta.net/
Best bet for LA though...get a rental car! LA is too spread out for you to really rely on buses or the subway/train. |

Tons of people in SF don't have cars because 1) It's not needed and 2) parking is such a bitch and so expensive it's not worth it.
SF has two major transit systems that run through it.
1) BART, which is the subway that connects SF w/ a large part of east bay. BART is based out of Oakland but is a huge part of SF's mass transit.
2) MUNI, which is SF's transit system. Just about every damn street has a bus that goes through it, and there are trains and stuff as well.
I have been living in SF for almost 5 years and have not had a car the whole time.
3) There are several other systems that go through SF that are based out of areas up north, south, and east. There's also Caltrain which goes from central SF all the way down to San Jose.
Here's a quick map of BART...the MUNI maps are just to complex to post here, but you can get tons of maps and PDFs from here

Here's a quick map of the MUNI system... |

Frisco amongst of the best in the country...
L.A one of the worst.....
Ive travelled by metro bus from downtown l.a to anaheim...trust me ...its depressing, time consuming and super harrowing...if u have to travel for work or something get a place close to where ure gonna be...dont even think about travelling regularly... |
