I recently formatted my master hard drive after adding in a slave one earlier yesterday afternoon, i moved all my pron, photos, and essentials files over to the slave, then continued to formatt the master. Then i finish, restart to find that the computer will not start with both hard drives, only my master drive.

I have tried an infinite amount of jumper settings on both drives, and moved the ide cables around, but still won't work. Anyone got any ideas why my computer is being a bastard.

If it helps i had unplugged my cdrw drive, and used the power cord from that to power my slave drive, as i didnt have any free power cords, but it worked the first time around, so im at my wits end trying to figure out what went wrong. At the moment im running the comp on just a slave and fresh install of windows.

Anyone that helps can have my body for free for one night.

1. You may not have a big enough PSU to power all of that stuff.

2. Try unplugging your CD-ROM IDE cable from the mobo since you're not running any power to it.

in bios there is a boot sequence selection. For primary boot device choose your master and then put NONE for all other and uncheck "look for other boot devices"

 How could I forget about the BIOS.:wtf:

I have a problem that is similar to this.

quote:
I had just bought the LG GSA-4120B two days ago... and there is some sort of conflict going on with my hardware.

I plugged in my new LG DVD Burner as my secondary CD-drive and still have my Plextor CD-RW drive as my primary CD-Drive. When I boot up, the computer denies the existance of the LG-DVD burner.

So I then moved my Plextor CD-RW drive into the secondary position, and my LG up into primary. Then neither of the drives are recognized.

So I unistall my Plextor, and have my LG only installed. The thing works...

[edit]: I guess I should add that I had an old DVD-rom as the 2ary, and the Plextor as my 1ary. No conflicts for the past 2 years with that set up...[/edit]

I guess I have to update the firmware?

Do I have to play with something in the BIOS (as stated above?

uhm id do two things. Double check that one is set for master with slave present in jumpers and the other is slave. Then in BIOS make sure Plug and Play OS is enabled. Sometimes youll just have to boot into windows and let windows recognize it. Then install the drivers and reboot.

The main thing is that if it isnt getting recognized in bootup (before drivers are loaded) it can only be a few things

Physical: jumpers, not plugged in right. Yellow wire points out on power, red stripe on IDE cable points towards power cord. The pins in the back are bent, straighten and replug.

Software/firmware: In the BIOS the slave spot for the secondary IDE isnt enable. Instead of auto detect it has NONE selected. Make sure all are open for detection and PnP OS is enabled.

have ur cd rom as the secondary slave and the second hard drive as the secondary master. (my first config as i didnt have spare slot under primary)

now my setup is under the primary slave :)

there should be a jumper on the hard drive which sets it to be a master or slave, sort that out.

boot into the bios, check that the system actually recognises the hard drive.
