Aliens & Predators = Gore ---MOVIE RATINGS---

Well I find it interesting that in America Fox has rated the new Alien vs. Predator movie 'PG+13'. All the Alien & Predator movies in the past have been rated 'R'. This is probably because the predator skins humans & takes skull tropheys while the alien baby busts out of a ribcages & grows to be a not so nice flesh eating monster. By making this movie PG, are they going to edit out all these good bits just so they can reach a larger market audience?? It's a little disrespectful to the original alien & Predator movies! I couldn't see a Freddy vs. Jason movie coming out as a PG+13 rating, but then again with this surprise!!! .....hmmmmm

Heres a petition that is against this PG+13 rating. Sign it if you care. Im sure AVP will still kickass with a PG rating.

It also looks like the rating systems have changed. Check out this article on "Ratings creep" PG-13 today is closer to R than possibly R was 8 years ago:

Thank God its PG-13, that means now I can go see it.

PG-13 movies are much more violent than they were 10 years ago. As America is the world's leading producer in stimuli, our ratings tend to be the ones people listen to, and the amount of violence that people are willing to expose themselves (and their children) to are on the rise...

O Discordia!

Despite the rating, Theres one thing to consider, PG-13 films make a lot more money then R rated files, The reason is cause PG-13 attracts a younger crowd 13 and up, While R rated attracts an older crowd from 18 and older, Therefore, If a movie was R rated, It will make less money cause it will loose its demographic which would be the younger audience, This is why R rated films are usually only advertised at night on TV, Not durring the day cause there aiming for that certain demographic, In the case of AvP, They been showing TV spots of it durring the day cause of its PG-13 rating, Which is safe to say, It might do really well at the box office as people will only want to see the two aliens battling it out, And don't care about the humans.

Ha, remember that Poltergeist was PG? And a particularly nasty scene... ;)

Ehm... I'd like to see more healthy sexuality onscreen. It's like, that hasn't moved a whole lot apart from art house films, but American Pie -- which I enjoyed thoroughly -- just brought together a new Porky's generation.

Things go in waves. I think in the 80s there was a big cinematic splatterfest before the govt. clamped down on that... and then it came back.

Let's see if Saw gets a, say, NC-17?

 yup sad but true!!
The true test will be at the cinema. If you read the petition there are alot of pissed off fans. The petition was only posted a few days ago & there are already over a thousand signatures!

There are alot of 'R' rated films that are successful. Remember Aliens was rated 'R' & that was a smash hit! I do see why Fox has done it, but it seems to be so disrepectful to the franchises. Aliens & predators are adult fims & should not hold back on the gore, violence & horror. These films are meant to scare us & shock the crap out of us. ......We'll have to wait & see at the cinema. the PG thing might work & Fox may have a mega smash at the box office. It will be interesting to see how it does...........:nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

Actually producers dont like it when their movies are made PG13 because not as many people go see them. People think "Oh, they took all the good stuff out," and then end up not going. There was an article on a recent movie regarding this... Ill see if I can find it.

edit: And its not about the money - the people that make the film dont rate it. Screeners who dont get a dime of the profit do.

hmmm interesting. so that's how it works. So it's the screens that can kiss my butt hehe. I thought it would be the Fox executives that decide on the rating. These 'screeners' would have to have some connection with the film (& with no profit!! )

They're editing it so that the theatrical release makes Rated R. The DVD release will most likely be unrated though.:D Can't wait to see that movie.

Matt
pg-13 in states usually = PG in Canada.

oh well, movie is gonna suck anyway.
montie
its all about money
they can release the pg13 to the theatres and reach a larger demographic
then they release that on DVD
then they release the "uncensored" version a little while after that
forcing many people to buy the movie twice

like with Lord of the Rings and the "extended editions"
