OK heres my problem...I made an awesome mix cd with TRAKTOR(mp3 mixing program) and it was flawless in the mixing...so i take it to the local record shop cuz they sell local DJs CDs...to make a long story short..it got in to the hands of the promoter at a really big club in chicago called Club Industry (www.club-industry.com) and they want me to DJ starting next weekend! i have no vinly just mp3s! they have a DJM 600 mixer and i have only very basic knowledge in using...what should i do about next weekend???

thats quite a messy problem :D do u have a friend who has vinyls/tables? if so go to them and take some quick lessons from him/her and practice as much as you can. if you get good enough, go for it. if not then i think you should tell them the truth about the mp3 mixing thing.

start practicing 24/7 on some t/t and get your beatmatching down at least. put a htread in the dj zone called something like "crash course" and get everyones ideas on how to learn quick. do the show, if they say you suck tell them someone put g in your drink. :p

Tell them you have something else next week, but that you can do it in 2-3 weeks... that should give you some time.:)

dude, you got yourself in trouble there! :D
that's why I'm hesitant about doing anything serious with CD's that I mixed on a computer with MP3's.
Do you have any friends that have turntables and can lend you some vinyl? Don't worry, it's not that hard. I suggest you get some really BIG tunes so the emphasis will be on the music and not on the mixing ;) |

Laffin i almost got myself into the same mess but i declined as sson as they offered the spot to me and said that i had already got a job in another club! If i were you then i wouldnt do the set cuz there's no way u'll be able to beat match properly all nite. But what u could do is take a laptop with Traktor on it and connect that to the mixer and mix live on that.

LOL, isn't Traktor great??? I just love it! Anyways, I wouldn't suggest you go try playing live, there's just no way you could beatmatch and play your way through the whole night. I was playing around with my buddy's vinyls and mixing on his turntables the other night for the first time and yeah, it wasn't too hard and I have some basic knowledge of mixing BUT there's ABSOLUTELY no way I would ever perform live without lots of time to practice. Unless you wanna get booed off the stage, I've seen it happened a few times and it's not fun at all...LOL!!!
