Hi Guys!!! i'm so excited, i finally got my own car! a 1998 pontiac grand am GT!!! and now that i finally have my own car, i really want to put a system in it, but i don't have to much money for it. what are some of the best amps and subs to look at that play EDM really well for cheaper prices, also used stuff too. Also if you could tell me what stores and places to look at, that would be awesome!!! thanks in advance!

As far as i know, MTX stuff (ie amps, subs) has been selling for a lot less then in the past. Alpine amps are good and are cheaper then most others.

I just got two Rockford 10" Punch subs (P210S4), one Rockford P2002 Amp, and a sealed box for 500 + tax at Futureshop. These subs hit hard and they sound clean. They sound really nice. When you do get subs, I recommend that you change your stock speakers too or the bass will drown out the treble.

congrats on getting your own car! good work! :)

i won't provide advice on the audio - as I just take mine to Audio Illusion in Oakville and he takes care of me (i tell him how much i have to spend, he does the rest).

however, i can offer this advice:

1) get an alarm with an ignition kill and make sure you get a PROFESSIONAL to install it (factory authorized installers are best, ask to see the factory authorized INSTALLER {not retailer} certificate). let your insurance company know - you'll get a discount.

2) krown rust control - get it done every year, it will keep your car on the road FOREVER (not only does it protect against rust, but it keeps the seams and joints lubed, which stops squeaking/rattling). You can get it done for $90 (but you have to ask for $90, regular cost is $110).

3) oil change/filter change - every 3 months/5000 km (whatever comes first). Oil is your car's most important fluid (lubricates, cools, cleans). change it 4 times per year (or more if you drive more) and your other maintenance costs will be reduced significantly over the long haul. don't worry about synthetic, just put the oil type that in the manual and do it REGULARLY. since you just got your car - I'd also advise a complete fluid job (coolant, transmission, brake, power steering, oil) - it might cost a few hundred, but it will be WELL worth it in the long run. you can take it to the jiffy lube type of places - but I'd recommend you take it to the pontiac dealer - they usually have some $35 special which does the oil/lube/filter, but they'll also give you a GOOD basic inspection (which jiffy lube type places can't/don't/aren't that great at). get repairs done at your favorite shop - but dealers are best (IMO) for basic maintenance.

4) scotch guard - go buy a can of the red topped scotch guard for $10 and cover the all of interior fabrics inc. trunk (after a good cleaning first). not only will this protect against stains but it increases the life of the fibers signficantly.

5) rainX - this stuff is god's gift to drivers. after washing your car, apply it to all exterior windows. it goes on like a wax (apply, wait to dry, buff off). re-apply when the seasons change. this stuff keeps your windows clear even in the hardest rain/snow but also lets the bugs/tar wipe off uber-easy. put it on the exterior mirrors too.

And this one is OBVIOUS: take good care of it (wash it weekly) and drive safely - last thing you'd want to do is wrek your new ride or have your ride be per

Enjoy the ride!

hey... i ws just gettin car audio stuff for my Audi, so after researching everything i know quite a bit now. Hit me up with a pm if you got questions.

For edm, go with 1 or 2 10" subs in a sealed box.. Itll give you nice clean, accurate bass notes.. Amps, i recommend ALpine or Rockford Fosgate. The amp is VERY important, so if ur gonna splurge a lil, it should be that IMO... It controls the movement of the sub, which will give u the most accurate bass.

It all depends on what you want.. how loud, cost, etc,etc... tell me, and ill reccomend you the best setup to go with
