which headphone/speakers good for mastering

after the remix comp, i got alot of feedback about mastering. i know to compare to other tracks, but i dont think i'm starting off with a good set of speakers/headphones.
what do you guys use? especially headphones.
i have a pair of sony mdr-v700s which are 3 years old and have a weird spectrum
i have a pair of rather large pioneer speakers which sound great at parties but seem to muffle the bass a bit.
and a pair of sony Nude Ear buds which are my personal favorite when listening to my own tunes.
any suggestions on a new pair of cans or which of my three to use? thanks |

Depends on your budget... for headphones, you can get a pair of sennheiser HD 280 pro's (what i use) for around 100$ US and even cheaper if you look around. It doesn't have the flatest frequency response out there but everything is still surprisingly clear. There takes a slight bit of adjustment to them though so you'll have to maybe listen to some "pro" tracks for a couple days on these to get a few of how things are supposed to sound
If you have a lot of money like maybe 1000$ to spend you can look around for mackie's studio monitors and you really can't go wrong with them as they give the most accurate sound that I've heard yet.

I consider that you don't have to buy special headphones for masterings,because thay are rather expensive(about 700$)
More then that using only headphones you can't control your sound at a full scale.Much better is to buy goog studio monitors.
