1)How do you guys place the stylus on the record. Are you using the lever or with your hand. When I use my hand, sometimes I put the stylus too hard on record. Can it damage the record?
2)Are you using something special to clear your vinyls? Sometimes the dust from vinyl hacks on my stylus. Can it damage the stylus?
I am using Technics SL-1210MK2 with Shure cartdrigde |

i use my hand to put the needle on. for speed purposes. if im cueing and wnt to put it back to the begining it would take forever to put it back using the lever. just be carefull and rest your hand on the deck when puting the needle down. if you know what i mean.
i use a soft cloth to clean mine. give them a wipe before you put them on to reduce the amount of dust that clogs on the needle and causes noise when the record is playing. dont use any cleaning fluid that have chemicals in them as they can damage the records (yes even the ones specaly made for records can) a soft cloth is enough.
when the crap clogs up on the needle just take it off by hand. big chunks of dust is never a good thing but is unavoidable really no mater how much you clean your records. as long as you are carefull when you remove this dust its fine. |

Ditto what Dukes said.
I use a Swiffer Dust cloth; works well for me. |

I jacked a record cleaner from my Dad that he had back when records were the thing. It works pretty damn well. |
