What exactly is french house? I have an idea that its something like filtered, funky, vocal style house. is that right? how did it come to be called 'french'?
Radagast
Because Thomas Bangalter pretty much invented it. He's french (I think).

It's the french version of italo disco. Which is the Europe'd version of disco. That's how I look at it, anyway. I could be wrong on the french version of italo part.

Because the inspiration for the style came primarily from French producers. By the mid-nineties house was in crisis, with Eurohouse in demise and nothing very catchy to take its place. Enter French House, with its heavy filters and strong hooks.

french house is wayy wayy more a discerning form of dance music.. usually consisting of deep, funky and dirty hooks, and yeah not forgetting the overuse of filters :p

french house is also commonly know as filter-house
