Skills? What the do you know? You don't even know what a real DJ is. Hell, we've got idiots saying Oakenfold is a legend. I don't ing think so. Those sets he did in '99 aren't legend, and neither is Tranceport. Uh oh time for trancecracker #5345762287 to try and flame me with his ignorant views. Well whoop dee ing do. I guess that means i've done my job.

Righto, about the only thing I agree with here is your opinion on trancesport, total e.

Are you generalising all top DJs here?

You'd be the sort of guy by the sound of it that plays music that you like at a gig, not the stuff the crowd goes for, cream your pants over some mystery track thats ultrarare even though its a e song and talk for hours about how the scene/top DJs/etc has become too commercial.

I think that many TA's on this site actualy have a much higher level of understanding of EDM that those who many admire as the worlds best.

Its just funny when anyone gives a bit of criticism to a "popular" DJ that you begin to offend those who also listen to his music. I would rather be a a "music geek" than some dumba$$ who listens to sh!t cuz everyone is telling him to listen to it. this is a music forum right?
Without criticism the music and the djs could not have the feedback needed to improved over time. I am serious about the music, as are alot of people on this forum, so to call someone a "geek" because they are passionate about EDM just indicates ones level of naivety with EDM or specifically their age.
Its unfortunate but good djs do end up becoming sh!tty over time.It Darwins theory of a DJ. Yes they were good and yes they did make contriubutions but as a avid listener I am not at club to hand out awards. "Death" of a DJ just opens the doors for new djs to take charge but more importantly increases sales for clubs and labels to promote the best "new " dj. this is why moving forward "popluarity" of dj will have to change.

In reguards to me not being a superstar Dj.....

the whole mix mag #1 thing is BULL. Seriously . It just a ploy by club owners and labels to create some type of excitement or sales for "the world # 1 dj". Who the f%ck is in charge of voting. Its not even done properly. How do you know its not fixed?? It should be called the world most popular DJ according to the few thousand DJ Mag subcribers, club owners, and DJ fans went to vote for him on Mix Mag's website. And the poor thing about it is that people keep using last years results as a reference for the following year. but hey it just like the "democracy" we have in america vote for either Democratic or Republican ( mirage of democracy). I mean if one was truely the world best than the vote tally should be in the millions not 20,000 ( as posted by mix mag). and how about all those "non geek" clubbers do you think actually vote for the worlds best DJ? Pleaze!! They dont even vote for there freakin president..hhehe.. but seriously. to indicate a DJ is supreme because of some foolish chart is idiot. And becuase a Dj makes a alot of $$ and has a huge follwoing does that make the music he plays good?? You are falling prey to what the music industry wants you to beleive. And I am sorry you havento rreached the level of maturity and wisdom as otehr TA have on this site.
Its just so funny to hear people who criticize those who listen to hip hop becuase they are trying to create some type of bad ass image or when people say about britteny spears showing her and appeals to people to listen to her music . But this whole # 1,#2, #3 this is just another creation from crass tasteless society. Its just another method created by the music industry , specifically designed for EDM to make money.
I guess youll change your mind or your opinions when the charts tell you huh??

Oh by the way I am not Paul Van Dyk so anything I said is competely wrong. Gezzz....

I agree with your idea that the whole voting system for this DJ of the year is total bull, its like names out of a hat.

But I think that the EDM genre suffers because of the lack of status many of the top exponents of our scene have in comparison to other music types. I reckon that Tiesto could walk down the main street in Brisbane and people wouldn't recognise him, try and say that for Enimem, or Cold Play, or Kellis. The scene needs icons, and heroes, and popular stars. This is what gets people hooked and attracted, and this filters down and helps all DJs right down to the bottom.

The top 100 DJs list does a good job in raising the profile of our stars, because without festivals with headlines, guest DJs in our clubs and International exchange of musically minded people the scene would die, or if not die, wouldn't progress as fast.

Everything popular creates competition, and innovation creates success, so time at the top is always going to be limited. This isn't a reason to diss top DJs.

Oakenfold is a complete bastard now, but he did do alot of good for the music. He WAS a real dj. He did mix quite well at times, and could produce nicely. Those sets he did in '99 are "legend" because people loved them so much, and they did so much for the scene. Theres alot more to djing than djing...oakenfold really knew how to create hype, give people a good time. He may be in it only for the money now (coke addict) but i like to think that back then he was going mainstream to bring this kind of music to more people. I'm probably wrong, but i'd like to think so.

I shouldnt waste my time typing this, and you shouldnt waste your time reading this, but i really feel that he did alot for the music.

Of course he did alot.

Unfortunately we live in a world where people like to deride success and cut down those that are popular and have made money. This applies to business, celebrities and electronic music.

People like to think that it would be so much better if only 85 people in the world likes the music, it wasn't at all commercial, it would be so much better. But what they don't realise is that it wouldn't even exist. You need cheezy elements of a scene to support the funky meaningful bits.

Just look at snowboarding at the winter olympics and x-games for skateboarding for how things that are soulful and real can be commercialised. Now I hate both those elements of those sports but the benefits of both filter down and help the scene as a whole. You'd be a total idiot not to see that.

excellent point. I agree with everything you said. As you have demonstrated one must than be able to seperate the top 100 list as a mere marketing tool rather than a reflection of DJ talent. But sometimes people can not see past the mirage. This is what I was hoping to explain

I agree with a lot of what you guys have written. I just get tired of the same old written over and over. It's all about approach.

The hate on these boards is what drove so many artists away from TA. I am not just talking about the big names I am also talking about the DJ's & producers that are trying to do something to support the scene. Saying things like "he sucks...he is ...he should drop dead" gets old. There are haters everywhere. No one ever said you had to love Tiesto or PvD or any of the others. There's also no need to bash all of the people that do. People talk about all the flame wars that go on in COR saying people should chill and it gets old. WTF do you think goes on in MD? It is just a different kind of a flame war. I would rather see TA's bash each other all day in COR then come in here and see an artist get bashed by a bunch of s. I am not saying any of guys are! I am talking about the one line posters. It would be nice to think that people could give an aritst constructive feedback without bashing them to hell, but I know I am only dreaming. Why are we so nice to the amateurs that post their music in the amateur production and amateur DJ forums yet when it comes to someone that has actually made it we are so damn nasty? Is it because people think they don't deserve recognition? Well obviously someone did or they wouldn't be famous. I will be the first to say that some of the amateurs on here have put out better music/mixes then some of the big names, but still...will you bash them too if they make it big one day?

When it comes to music I let people talk to me because it is just their opinion. I am a Ferry Corsten whore to the bone. I love all the others including PvD, AvB, and hell even Tiesto. Nothing anyone ever says to me on TA is going to persuade me otherwise.

did anyone use my airplane example....or are we off topic...

cause the way I see it I compare djing to an airplane ride.....you get some turbulance, which is galloping.....and the you can crash the plane.....trainwreck.

most people are way too sensitive to the beat and claim trainwrecking where there is only galloping...that don't phase me....

Agreed to a point, but I wouldn't take it any further and say that those DJs in the top 100 aren't talented, because thats total bull.

I agree that this might affect the upcoming djs and producers but the big names shouldn have ne excuses simply because they realize they are where they are for a reason and sometimes ppl might expect to much out of them. There are people out there who want to see the big names tumble and thats all the more reason tiesto( who is still one of my favs) and the rest of the top 100 should be able to handle criticism
