Blank and Jones. I shouldn't have to explain...

Oakey was never the best mixer, but he used to rock the crowds, and that is probably the same for Tiesto, a lot of people, you might call them mindless, but probably more purists is the better word will enjoy the 'enthusiasm' they show.

Others like a lot of people here see past that & expect technical brilliance all the time, It's not a lot to ask I know, but you could get too much on that side, and take a guy like Zabiela who technically I rate as one of the best, but trackwise he makes me want to cut off my balls with a rusty 50 pence coin.

Think for a minute, Forget DJ Lists, popularity bull, every dj is different in their own way, and there are thousands of DJs who've been in the business for years without any of the big publicity, who are twice as talented as the ones who get the main headlines. DJ Sy is a great DJ/Scratcher but since he's spun hardcore for years, no1 will appreciate that, DJ Hype & Andy C are great D&B DJs but again their styles won't be appreciated by everyone. Mark EG has the energy of Tiesto x about 20 times, and plays weird sets, and got me into a lot of the trancey sounds in the late 90s, but he's never had the full superstar treatment guys like Tiesto take for granted.

I believe it's time that people just got off the back of DJs, if you find armin boring or Schulz the master of mcprog, tiesto an assclown, or think ferry spins too much of his own stuff lately (mainly cos a lot of other stuff sucks ;)) Just spare a moment for the guys who yes, get paid loads, but have been doing it for years, and in many cases started out doing it cos they loved it, djing, producing, and spare a thought for them when we're in an age of people who download a software and expect to make a track and be signed within months. All this does is pollute the airwaves with sub-standard crap which if some DJs play it, will never give us artists who technically wipe their ass on about 30 of this 'new wave' of producers... like Oliver Lieb for a prime example, He did things ahead of it's time, he's produced many styles, and done it all exquisitely. Maybe it will happen in time, but I doubt for example Airbase or Thomas Datt or Envio or Endre will ever be able to accomplish in their careers what he has in his.

Respect where it's due, but I do believe there are too many 'fish in the pond' as far as productions go anyway atm, sure theres real talented guys, Espen Gulbrandsen (Recluse etc) is one who springs to mind, Phynn is amazingly talented, and Factoria is another who technically spends ages on tracks & writes good melodies, but they will be relatively unnoticed if so many people make tracks just to get signed rather than cos they have the talent that guys like ferry armin etc did at their age.

disclaimer - if that doesn't make sense in writing, it does in my head, and im tired :p

*bows to you*

Very, very, very well said.

chears ian that saved me having a rant.... :) :p :D

and in defence for oaky he is more intresting to go see than alot of other dj's due to his croud interaction. alot of dj's stand mix then go home without even noticing there is a crowd in front of them.

hey, DIP , if u read what i put, then maybe, and just maybe (assuming u really can read) u will realize i put nothing of what makes a good DJ. so ur entire comment, was a waist of time. im just saying people didnt get big by being bad producers/djs. also the comment was more along the lines of a joke than it was serious.

but seriously, i appreciate your input

oh wait

no, no i dont

That was a witty retort, full marks for your attempt at humour, but you're comment was clearly a shot at the people that were expressing their opinions on what Dj's should call it a carreer, so let's not pretend like it was a joke.

Your comment indicated that we, fans of EDM, don't have a right to comment on what DJ's should stop, because we don't have a tour schedule like they do. If you'd like a reminder of what you said you can find it on page 3 of this thread:

to all u people saying all this, i have just one question, could you possibly PM me the next time ur going to be touring so that i might catch you? or maybe you could PM the name of your last mix cd or artists album.

thx ahead

So again, thanks for your input on the subject you ass.

Definitely agree with your thoughts on "new" trance producers, Ian.

i agree too. i'm still waiting for that next real producer. i mean yeah a couple of these people are jumping a good tune or two...but most aren't gonna have the presence that an airwave, and oliver lieb, or any of the other top producers have had...especially oliver lieb. i mean the man is so damn versital...and he's been doing it for a DECADE...the talent he has is just amazing.

THAT my friends is what's missing at the moment. everyone is making there little one of two tracks, but no one is stepping up to replace the big boys production wise. i would say that the closest anyone is coming to that would be probably like Luke Chable and in the future...Derek Howell, but they got the prog sound going on...no one is around to step up and replace the trance producers.

if above and beyond are the future...then we're all doomed :(

Sad but true...

I think serious progressive trance will eventually come back. It's just a matter of how long a wait.

I'd really love to try production. I experimented with some software, and have some good ideas, but if I were to seriously produce I would want to work with hardware. I don't have the time, money, or equipment at present to do that. But eventually I'm going to, one way or another.
