Well what type of dvds are you trying to burn? video dvds or just normal data?
i use the Nero suite. Its damn good. But if you want to burn video dvds, you have to get Nero Vision + the dvd plug-in.
Basically to burn video dvds you need authoring software, which turns what ever video files you have, into VOB files, which a dvd player can read.
If its just data, normal Nero will do it. |

DVD Lab - Mediachance.com
Super DVD Creator - 7.1
You will require to do a lot of reading, esp about mutiplexing and adding menus and chapters also remember that DVD Audio Rate is 48Hz, most DivX Mpeg4 Rips are 44Hz. |

if you are just trying to "back up" a dvd, or basically make a copy of lets say... "Mission Impossible" DVD to a blank DVD+/-R, then go ahead and use DVD Shrink.
You may have heard some ty remarks about this software some time ago, believe me it's great as i've used it to "Back up" over 50 DVD's.

BTW, its completely free, and no spyware or anything of that sort.
by the way, you may actually need Nero, as its the best software out there, and DVD Shrink uses NERO internally to actually "burn" onto the DVD+/-R.
