last year i bought a digital camera Canon Powershot A70 , i also bought the extra warranty they give (the one of 3 years).
tonight i wanted to take some pics and miserably i dropped the camera. when i try to turn it on it shows the canon screen then nothing happens and it gives me a "E18" error. the lens isn't broken but the stuff supposed to cover it when it's turned off is broken :(
my question is : is futureshop going to repair it or replace it ? knowing that i accidentally dropped it , and on their website it says even when you have the extra warranty such things aren't covered :(
i wanted to know if any of you experienced a similar situation with futureshop :( |

extra warranties anywhere are a scam!!!
sorry, you'll have to send it to Canon or cover up the accident :( |

Sorry to tell you this but those *extended* warranty things they sell you at places like furture shop and best buy are a huge SCAM. There should be a warranty provided by the manufacturer anyway so the extra 60 bux or whatever it is you paid was a complete waste. Every extended warranty you give them is pretty much just helping their profit margin.
Because you dropped it and it has been a year ( cannon warranty lasts only one year and doesn't include when you drop it.) Unless you are a really good liar and can figure out a way to convince either futureshop or canon that you are not at fault, looks like you will just have to suck it up and have it repaired at your own expense. |

Those warranties arent a scam when you know how to milk it. As long as there is no physical damage to the product, you are ok. Bring back the item more than three times for warranty and they have to replace it with the current years model.
If the lens cover is still attached, i suggest you try to move it back into place manually and go to future. If you can't, dont let them know that you accidently dropped it. Tell them you are getting that error and all the while trying to keep the lens away from prying eyes.
There is no harm in trying that first as the worst thing they can say is no. |

I have returned my DJ headphones 4 times now (Sony500's) to Futureshop. If they say no, I go to the next one or come in the next day and just be like it just broke, I didn't do anything. They have always taken it. Not like it is their money. Honestly, go right before closing, they will be like FINE take it!

warranty is definately good to get, ESPECIALLY at a place like futureshop..
you tell them 2 1/2 years into your warranty whatever you bought doesn't work as well as when it first did.... and they'll replace it with something new... and since it'll probably be too expensive to replace your (old) model, they'll give you the newer model of which you paid (the amount)..
so if you bought that canon camera 3 years ago for 500$ and took it in today, they'd give you a $500 camera..
another thing.. NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy electronics at futureshop/bestbuy.

That's the exact reason people buy the extended warranty. They get a new model for 'free'. What's the problem with that? That is the readon I buy the extended warranty. It has worked for me before. |

| yes buy the warranty but remember, 90% of stuff from futureshop/bestbuy is refurbished.... which is why i don't buy major electronics from them |
