First ever Remix!!!!

This is my first ever remix. Not sure if its trance or just dance!
I think it still needs some fx.
But your opinions count alot.
I've been told I did not pick a good track for a remix, Heroes by David Bowie. Just had a tooth extracted and the pain was driving me to distraction. You do silly things when your in pain:toothless

DEFINITELY KEEPING THIS ONE!! Would you send me (or post) at least a 160kbps sample or send me wav so that I can re-master this?
THIS IS INCREDIBLE...am I biased because I love Bowie? I think not...this is a great production! You've captured the essence of the song perfectly IMO!:p GREAT choice of instrumentation! Love the use of the choir pad at 2:40!
As I mentioned, the only bad thing I have to say about this is the mastering. You need to compress this better to even it out and maybe then send it through a limiter to maximize its overall volume. I'd also like to hear your hihats and that searing string synth you have pokin in and out... try a HiFreq Exciter and EQ some more. Oh boy...consider sending me this bro! Love it love it!

what..? LOOPER... you say you dont like bowie and then say the remix is poor? Wheres the constructive criticism then? You cant just bash some remix cuz you dont like the original.
Stereo kix? Not sure what you mean by that, but are you saying they should be mono? panned left or right?

Stop pickin' on me!!! I didn't mean that!! I said that remix is poor from music producer's poit of view, but not from bowie's opponent's! There are a lot of remixes that i like more than original!!!

And "stereo kick" means the STEREO kicks! They shouldn't be mono, but not so panned to the both channels.... |

Thanks guys. These are the best comments of received todate.
I've been producing for about 14 Months but with no real quality.
That has changed over the last 3 months with the feedback from this board.
And to DJ looper. The kick is a mono feed from my sampler into a mono channel on my desk panned dead centre. The high frequency part as a slight amount of reverb and stereo delay.
And for the life of me I only hear it coming out of the centre.
But like I've said before, all feedback is appreciated. Without it I wouldn't have progressed this far:)
I'll try to put up a 160 or 192bit version for Digital Aura. I'll pm you when I have done it. |

I have posted a 192KBS version roughly 8.3Mb
Have played a little with the high end using an exciter, but thats the only difference.

Yeah...I couldnt understand what Stereo kicks meant... they sounded centered and not too wide in my monitors. Looper, I wasnt picking on you..sorry mate!:gsmile:

ok... first of all, the thing is the kick is panned to the center, but it is very stereo.. which makes it lose a lot of power. It is ok to have a stereo kick... as long as the punch of it is mono... and the tiny bit of the reverb at the end is stereo. you may not hear it in speakers, but either try positioning your head so that it forms an equilateral triangle with your left and right speakers while they are tilted in a bit or try using headphones. You'll be able to hear the huge stereo which loses it a lot of power.
Personally with the track, i am not into the style too much, but it is some decent work on the synths though. It still needs to be cleared up a bit especially with the main synth, it is taking up too much headspace (frequencies, stereo field, etc..) and making everything else seem more muddy. There is some good atmosphere, and it is very different from normal trance and really "happy". However, some synths do sound kinda preset-ish and don't sound as original as i hoped. Actually, i thought about it, and this would make excellent video game music... like mario or zelda or something... |

I still dont understand what you are saying about the kick.
It's a mono sample, on a mono output to a single channel panned centre. Thats all in hardware. I have checked on headphones and my monitors which are positioned correctly. How can it give a stereo image? The whole signal path is in mono.

I have done some modifications. I think the bass line was overlaying the kick and giving a false impression!
So, I have altered the bass line, done some subtle eq'ing throughout and made very subtle changes to the arrangement.
I have uploaded both 128 and 192kbs versions.(link below)
