Benefit event to held to raise money for the victims of the World Trade Center attack and the children of Afghanistan !!
Hong Kong, 24 September 2001 -
The recent terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the looming war in Afghanistan has brought the local nightlife scene together for an event to help the innocent victims of terrorism and war.
The event will benefit the Red Cross Disaster Relief (for New York) (http://www.redcross.org) and the Oxfam Hong Kong (http://www.oxfam.org.hk) for the victims, refugees and children of Afghanistan.
The 12-hour benefit event will take place from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on 5 October 2001 at Jah, 20-26 Peel Street, Central, Hong Kong. Directions to Jah can be found at (http://www.jah.com.hk) and additional event information can be found at (http://www.gwylorecords.com).
Tickets will be HK$100 at the door with all monies from tickets sales going directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and Oxfam Hong Kong.
"With the resent horrible acts of terrorism happening in the US, we felt it was important to use what resources we have in raising money for the victims of the tragedy," said Jonathan Hakim, Proprietor of Jah "We also wanted to support the innocent victims of the war about to take place in the Middle East so we will split all the ticket sales evenly between the two charities."
This event features the top DJ's in Hong Kong coming together to show their support for the charity event. With a line up that includes DJ's Teng Boon, Chris Sorensen, Gruv, Eric Byron, Kulu, Jean Paul, and Mike Hill already donating their names and time to the cause, it shows how people from various clubs can come together in times of need.
"When I was called by Jon Hakim about this event, he did not even have to finish his sentence as I was eager to get involved, " said US producer and deejay, Chris Sorensen,. "I called every deejay friend in Hong Kong and asked them to contribute their name and some time, all of them were keen to get involved. "I will also have the Communiqué Records USA get involved through some promotional items and www.gwylorecords.com will be helping the with Web broadcast," added Sorensen.
This event will feature a live Internet broadcast (by www.puredj.com ) of the DJ sets for people around the world to listen to the DJ's spin music and also links to the charities where people can donate money though secure transaction Web pages.
