Not sure whether to put this here, NYC forum or COR but oh well..
I just bought Paul's Boutique (which should be in every self-respecting music lover's collection of course), and I was wondering about some of the words and phrases the boys use for their rhymes. Some of them are just names of certain people, some are probably slang that is typical for their neighbourhood, whereas other things are probably just nonsense. So what do these things mean/who are these people?
"Bust a Travis Bickle"
"I'm so rope"
"Full clout"
"Cheech wizard"
"..and went straight to O.T.B"
"Got more Louie than Phil Rizzuto"
"3 on the tree in the middle of the night"
"Your girl got dicked by Ricky Powell"
And so on and so forth. Some help? |

Travis Bickle was the name of Robert de Niro's character in the classic movie "Taxi Driver" (1976).
Phil Rizzuto might refer to a NY Yankees star baseball player. There was also a documentary movie made about NY Yankees, the most famous franchise of baseball and Rizzuto was in it too. Not sure if the name here refers to that tho.
No idea about the rest as i don't know any slang in English. |

'rope' refers to rope-a-dope and I think they use the word to mean dope, fly, cool, whatever
I'm so rope/They call me Mr. Roper
I love that line!
'full clout' just means coming strong, powerful, or respected.
Hurricane, you got clout/other DJ's, he'll take your head out
Those are my interpretations of those lines anyway; I think they are pretty accurate.
The others I don't know but, here is a cool site nonetheless and it may have some more info. Click Here |

'full clout' means you got mad props..
Phil Rizzuto as Grim mentioned, was a hitter[short stop if im not mistaken..] for the NY Yankees.. 'Louie' is reffering to the Louiseville Slugger bats the baseball players use... in this case Beatie Boys call something a 'Louie'.. maybe ? :p and saying got more than Phil... 'O.T.B.' is Off Track Betting... a place where you bet on horses but nowhere near the actual tracks, its just in the neighborhood and mostly drunks wander apon. :) |
