| That sounds to me like... Trance Judas... who is at one point a disciple of Tranceus but then sells him out for 30 pills! |

| I listen to trance with the exception of epic/anthem trance. |

Ha ha ha , its funny you should say that. I saw oakie at Gatecrasher Summer Sound system and the first tune he played had a long build up and when the beats came in flames shot up from the front of the stage, the track was wicked and everyone was chanting Oakie, Oakie, Oakie. Unbeknown to me, my mate standing next to me started to freak out on his sweeties and told me afterwards he flipped and though he was amongst devil worshipers.
Still makes me chuckle.......

that does not mean that the 2004 trance sux now
imo, you should just listen to whatever you like, i still love to listen to My lexicon or Questions must be asked, not so fresh tunes, but tunes like The Timelord or The whiteroom in sets am enjoying alot as well.
i don't really care if someone says: omg trance, what an idiot.
i can just reply with Jayz or britney what an idiot you are.
It's stupid to say: well producer A: making all the same supersaw tunes, so il just move to prog or techno etc and bash trance later when someone talks about it.
just listen to what you like and the genre bull. |

It is not a dirty word in belgium, it's popular, at least .. what they label trance to the mass. You see people get a wrong picture from you if you say you spin it, and that picture to me, is worse then . It means you spin Lasgo (btw I heared they're touring in the US now ! HAHA !), Ian Van Dahl, Sammy, Milk Inc., Traffic...
You guys ever heared of Lasgo or Milk Inc. ? That is 'trance' in Belgium ... I accept paypal donations in case someone wants to support me .. ;)
This music is the absolute definition of 'as long as I get rich, I don't care wtf it sounds like'. Every friggin 'trance' 'group' in belgium consists of the following :
-One female singer, preferably with fake boobs.
-One vocalist, who will sing for the pretty lady the first couple of songs. Nobody knows her of course. This is an option, they don't all do this. Of course you don't have to be able to sing really good to scream in a mike and go 'Here we, here we, here we ing go' (and the way they say it, it sounds more like 'kiwi, kiwi, kiwi fukin' o -> I'm not kidding, any belgian TA that heared Lasgo sing this will agree..).
-One big time manager, preferably a friend of your rich daddy.
-A lousy producer to back things up, but HE HAS TO BE ABLE TO USE A SUPERSAW... aaaaaah. If he can do that, it's all good ! And re-use the same patches every song ! Duplicate whatever is popular and use it in your next hit.
-If the lyrics ain't cheesy, you ain't getting signed biatch !
Lyrics preferably repeat the following words untill heart failure : Love, Angel, Miss, Want, You, Forever, I, Need, want.
The chorus has to repeat itself every 10 seconds (I'm not joking btw, I don't even understand how any human being can listen to their songs for more then 20 seconds..)
There you go ! COme to belgium and get rich !
Here's what it's come down to when I say I spin trance :
-Dude that's gay/Hey I like Milk Inc too !
-It's not trance as in Milk Inc., that's , it's more like xxx spins (I can't say tiesto or pvd anymore, because their last productions don't really define trance, traffic, lethal industry etc... n/o intended, but that's not what I spin you see.. and that's what they'll think of when I say their name). You don't hear it on the radio, so unless you know what I'm talking about by now, just come and have listen, or check out some of these songs...
Oh and whoever said it's good music because it's on nr.1 and it takes skill.
It takes no skill, no talent, just know the right people. If these guys have ANY talent, it is that they have every radio station to like them. They bring dick into the music, and they aren't even worth being called a musician.
A lot of the producers that faded away because of mp3 are the guys that 'make music to make money', because there is no big money in it anymore for them. The ones that stand, an DEFINATELY the ones that will rise are the people that 'make money, to make music'. And this evolution will make Trance a nice word again, just give it some time. |

I'd say, yes, it is a dirty word. In general, it just depends on who you are talking to and what their view of the music is. The word "trance" to many people is the cheesy, mainstream DJ Sammy/Flip N Fill . All genres of EDM are like this though. If you tell someone you like "house", they tend to associate house with gays. If you tell someone you like "techno", they automatically refer to "Blue" by Eiffel 65, since that song was coined as techno here in the US. Therefore, each genre name can be dirty.
For me personally, I don't like the word because I get reminded of the Armin/Tiesto/PVD and that is not what I listen to, nor spin. I know that trance encompasses more, but I don't care as house music is where it's at for me. |

i grew up liking trance too...
i was a huge tiesto, armin, etc.. -head. then (bored of hearing same diff day) i started to listen to james holden type stuff (got bored of that), then got more into the progressive house scene.. i discovered the gu artists; sasha, digweed, cattaneo, etc. etc., but who really striked my fancy was sander kleineneberg, and realized that all genres can be used to create a set. i really enjoyed his warmup hrs like first 30 minutes to an hr of music which usually (depending on his mood) consisted of deep, funky, etc house. the man really knows how to mix it up :)
i really started to like this deep house and i started some research "undergroundhouse.net" and now that is absolutely infectious. honestly to tell you the truth, trance "is" and will continue to be mainstream music. it is formulaic and very easy for newbies to listen to. whereas if u start busting out some deep ass funk people can't really listen that.
the main reasons why i like dance music so much is that there is so much to listen to... there is good in every genre; and i like to incorporate all of them in my sets.
but for now i have been playing mostly deep, funky underground house labels w/ prog tech house included. basically what strikes my fancy.
to sum it up... there are way more genre's out there then trance guys.. alot of you should open your ears or do some research on the scene around you.. i know i did and i dont regret a second of it. |

The only thing I bash on is the music. Plain and simply, I don't like the way it sounds and it is too fast for my tastes. And
unfortunately, Armin, Tiesto, and PVD are the leaders of trance, so the bashing will always go to them because they represent the trance sound. I think too many people label them as "gods" and any little thing below that status can lead to the bashing and bandwagon jumping. Can't speak for these people though. |
