well, imo it all boils down to the interview, like sly said, you have to sell yourself. Way I see it, is if I get the interview, I got the job.

Hardest part is getting in the door. Either you talk to the manager himself when you drop off the application, or you have one fancy resume. One thing I think that is really hurting today, is the fact that many places no longer take paper applications and only accept them online. IMO that just makes it waaaay to easy for anyone and their brother to apply, and it doesnt allow for that "hi, this is me" presentation you get to make with the old fashioned paper applications.

Also, sometimes its its better to say you're not attending college at all. Even though you're willing to work full-time, they take the student factor, and consider someone with no other obligations over you.

I've seriously though about taking out my certifications, diploma, college education, and other achievments, and editing my resume to look like it was written by a thug, and sending it to places like target etc for the hell of it.

Sounds silly, but look at the hiring statistics of walmart, target, etc, and you have yourself the typical resume of those who are employed there.

I sent out thousands of resumes before I found job I was looking for. I was denied by ty companies where I know my skills would be very beneficial. I was denied by so many times that one time I was invited for interview for the second time, same company…and denied again. I was about to go insane many times, having questioned my luck and everything that I could. Few things I never did and those, I guess, what has helped me to find what I really wanted.
1. I never questioned my determination.
2. I never questioned my self-worth.
3. And even for a second I didn’t stop believing that I will find what I want eventually.
I know it could get hard at times and being shot down feels like you being ignored. I know that it could bring you down, but those are only moments on the way to better life.
You will always find it, if you’re looking. Just don’t stop looking.

I used to make $7.25 an hour, and $11 for overtime (past 40 hours).

Now, I make no money. :sadgreen:

Such ignorance... come to my house and talk to my dad, then I bet that statement will change. He'll give you the reality on jobs and employment.

i dont know if thats true. im in HS and im applying at a new superwalmart in town thats opening later this year. i see a lot of people who work at walmart who are older and look like they dont have much education, but the fact is, if you have a lot of education, you probably wont be trying to work in walmart etc, unless you retire and just need something to do...
SportTrance
im not complaining, ive never even applied to a walmart. I'm just focusing on the fact that uneducated people, are actually a threat in the lower-requirement working field

people wonder why the drop out rate and education is ridiculous in this country, its because you CAN get a job without it, it wont be good, or great, but a GED is sufficient enough to keep you alive. Hell, if you cant get a GED, there's still jobs available. You dont even have to be a ing citizen. Grant it, theyre all crappy but its still a job. But what this does is lower the national requirement bar, and lowers the standard pay.

Although this lowered bar boosts the economy, its hurting the generally educated just looking for a job to get by (college students, young parents, etc). You would think a low requirement bar would be beneficial to everyone, well it would, but not when the low-expectation-work force is as saturated as it is now. Lower-requirement doesnt have to mean lower pay, atleast not 5 measly 50 an hour (without taxes)

The economy didn't set minimum wage, society did by itself. As long as so many people are willing to work for it, based on their low ass standards, then none of it will change. This is how it is in any country. There has and always will be a workforce willing to work for anything.

But its why so many people can't wait to get a ing degree, cuz although it puts you in a new arena of competition, you're a level above the old one, and this time you're actually fighting for a somewhat reputable position.

Ofcourse, we got Enron employees here who made 60+ a year who are now strugging to find a job at walmart, so, the above is only true when the economy is stable.
