To play constantly on three dex is one of the hardest thing you can do, You need excellent co-ordination and a good ear for out of time beats. Hence the reason I don't do it.

I am really thinking of adding a third turntable, but I can't decide between getting one turntable or dropping some more cash and just picking up two cd decks

The Norwegian techno producer Cave is always mixing on
three decks and does a really good job out of it.

i heard a recent set by him at the weekend, its stupendous!

i've just shelled out on another deck for my setup. the plastic was paying so i got a mk5g (which IMO is the only tech worth having, but vastly over-priced) to go with my 2 vestax pdx2000's + numark axis 9. now i need a 4 channel mixer :/ need to save for nuo5 :toothless

I once played with 2 turntables and 2 CD-decks. Three records on and mixing in a fourth - that was wicked! :D

Mind you it was a Techno set. The people loved it. Too bad it was only a local birthday party.

When playing trance, three decks is a must for me anyways. There's always the odd acapella you can throw in, or a few good mash-ups.

PS, Plastikman's stuff owns when you have 3 or more decks 8)

i use three decks when mixing trance. sometimes i'll throw layers of other sorts of genres overtop and makes it sound quite nice. or i just use the third to tease in a track that i'll mix in later on.

i definitly disagree with the fact that having three is useless!!

two is boring.

the more sources to mix from the better.

oh and 3tt techno djs... ben sims en owns!!!!

Ok good info here, but stop dissing Bailey lol. He didn't say like ' all who plays on 2 decks'. He said something like 'Yeah I understand that some people like to mix with 2 decks, but I just think it's not a technical challenge to play a song for 8 minutes and mix in another one, that's why I like to use 3 decks' After the journalist asked/told him 'People say you are a very good technical DJ, do you consider yourself a good DJ ? Who else would you name ?'

Cheers

A third TT is on the top of my equipment list. You can always make use of the extra source, no matter what the genre to get ahead of yourself beatmatching wise! :)

Plus there is the fun of ambient peice + drum loop = new tune to be had, applicable to BOTH trance and techno!

the fact that it has more than +/8% pitch range.

the way i play my techno means that sometimes i would like to play a track as part of a mash up (and sometimes on their own) at higher speeds than the record will go at +8. i like to throw in a bit of breaks over my techno here and there nowadays, and theres a lot of slow breaks records that if had bought a mk2, i wouldnt be able to play the record on that deck.

i am not going to buy a deck i can't use at all times :)
