I think I'm gonna get a pair of ortofon's. I'm debating between getting the OM style or the Concorde style. What are the pros/cons of each as far as:
Sound quality
Tracking
Professionalism (mostly i've seen dj's with cartridge and headshell setups but alot of TA's recommend the concords. Is that because of the quick installation? looks?)
Also could anyone give me advice or refer me to a site that gives proper tonearm settings for the om's.
Thanks! |

Their caracteristics are the same. If you have a spare headshell, get the OM. If you don't, get the Concorde. |

I have a pair of the Concorde Pro S needles and I like them a lot. Decent sound quality, easy installation, and they look purty. |

My advice would definitely be to get the Concorde carts. I have 2 pairs of them and I love em (the handles on the sides of the first pair were broken by some drunk girl at a party -- dumb) |

I have concordes and originally got them over the OM because of ease of installation. Now I am more confident I would say go with either one (especially if you already have headshells). Concordes do look cool but the sound quality is the same. |

as far as i know there is no technical difference between the carts. the concordes look miles better and are much easier to switch. plus you don't have to fanny about with little screws to mount them. |

These are pretty newb questions - carts aren't really my forte.
Do any carts fit onto any headshells?
I've got the stock Numark HS-1 headshell that came with my TTs, and am wondering if the OMs would fit onto it - I'm in need of some new carts and am thinking possibly the Ortofon Pro S OM carts.
Would the OM carts be MUCH better than just Stanton 500ALs?
I'm not a real serious DJ, so something that will look after my vinyls is more important than sound quality. |

Agreed, the stylus are the same so theres not gonna be much difference in the quality just cos of the cartridge.
My mate has the OM's and my tracking seems twice as good plus its easier to move the concordes with the longer handle bit.
Also those are OM's are ugly bastards, go for the concordes. |

I would assume more catridges fit onto any headshell. I was told last night by a very popular record store owner in Cleveland that Ortofon Elektros sell very well and he has never had a complaint about them.. except one time by a scratch dj. I trust his judgement (him knowledge being much more vast than my own) and I'm buying them soon. |
