... EDM?
Reading through this forum I found loads of posts talking about EDM... Is a group or an abbreviation?
Thanks a lot,

| Calling general electronic music 'techno' is a sin punishable by flames and name-calling :whip: :stongue: |

OK, so what is techno? And what's the difference? |

Techno is a 133t genre based on tight percussion and loops with a few bleeps and bloops thrown in.
Have a look at this, it explains things well -

PA = public address, as in PA system.
EDIT - Or maybe not. According to this blast from the past, "PA" stands for personal appearance.
I was also thinking it could stand for performance art. I'm not really sure myself. |

LOL!
Depending on who you are, it's quite alright. It's a matter of a choice because it is a convenient, powerful, brief term.
"Electronic Dance Music" is unwieldy and when you're asked to explain "EDM", that may diffuse some of the Teutonic punch. One of the best examples of this punch can be seen (and heard) in an episode of Tales Of The Blode by Joel Veitch (of Quizno's ad campaign fame).
My personal reasoning on all of this is published here:
Why it's all Greek... uh, Techno to me :)
Techno can be both an umbrella term for all TECHNOlogical music forms and for the more specific style grown like a ripe harvest from places like Detroit, Cologne, etc. Don't let the imploding psychology get to you -- after all, these are synthetic constructs assembled by humans. How you use "techno", like the f-word, may say a lot about you (like that skit). Ha ha. ;)
Ishkur's Guide is a lot of fun, I recommend it myself. Make sure to read the disclaimers.
Enjoy! :D |

Just in case you missed that - MAKE SURE TO READ THE DISCLAIMER!
It's a good source of info if you can see past the mockery and bias. |

HAHAHA. Yes.
The first time I read Ishkur's site, I was downright APPALLED. I do not understand certain types of humor very well and it was only after finding the ***DISCLAIMERS!!!*** :haha: that I got a better idea. I am happy he states his bias openly. It is far better than pretending to be objective and having an obvious agenda.
Jessica.S: Do you have a favorite alternative to Ishkur's or any other site you'd recommend to check out instead? :) |
