"Eurocheese" has no exact definition. The meaning of "euro" is clear, as in "coming from a point of European origin", but "cheese" I can't relate to. I usually don't compare music to food this way, unless you wanna get like Tom Green and say "this song sounds like apples".

"Cheese", in some people's ears, refers to popular, more radio-friendly music that makes them wince embarassingly and smile cringingly... get it, say cheese. :)

But when it comes to defining "what is cheese", I'm not the person to ask. After all, one person's cheddar is another's limburger and a song you totally enjoy is one someone else may dismiss as "cheese". ;)

Eurocheese is trance that isn't alternative enough for elitists to be seen listening to. Other than that, it doesn't exist.

um, just listen to some trance songs
REAL trance songs

and then listen to eurodance
it seriously requires no explanation

Eurotrance (poptrance, eurocheese, etc.):

a) Always has vocals, almost exclusively female ones.

b) Almost always has no lyrical meaning or depth. Eurotrance songs are endless purmutations of teenage poetry, and freqeuntly contain the words "angel," "love," "sweet," "heaven," "baby," etc.

c) Are produced almost exclusively with radio play in mind, for the purpose of making money. Very seldom will a eurotrance artist express any serious artistic motivation.

d) Often incorporate an off-beat kick, to sound more housey and "bounce around," but still contain the builds, rolls, and supersaws of epic trance.

e) Perhaps most importantly, never pretends to have any serious intent or meaning behind itself. Eurotrance artists know they are making insipid party music. That's exactly what they're trying to make, because many people want just that out of what they listen to. Epic trance artists, on the other hand, often claim a certain passion or emotional connection with their work.

Artists include Ian van Dahl, Lasgo, Milk Inc., DJ Sammy, Flip & Fill, ATB (his ones with vocals, at least), and so on.

That's a really good explanation! :D

That goes to reinforce my belief that "the music cannot stand alone" and you need to look at the context surrounding it to gain a better appreciation (or lack of it) for where a particular song and its creator(s) might be coming from. Similarly, a ch00n can be enjoyed by itself, but you like it so much more if it's played during an especially emotional time of your life or if you learn something about the artist you can really relate to.

Along the same thoughtline: would your enjoyment of X track or Y album be decreased if you learned it was made solely for financial gain? :(

tht was a really good explanation by cobalt...thanks...
but no matter what others say...i still luv trax like marakech n ecstacy by atb ...even though they fall in the so called "cheese" category...finally its a matter of choice...isnt it??????

"Cheese", as in the food *and* the music, can be a good thing. The term is a synthetic, human-created construct commonly propagated by herd mentality, peer pressure, and social conformity.

If you really like a piece of music, then that's how you honestly feel about it. You can still say "cheese" -- but it now means a positive thing to you. You've taken a word and spun the meaning around for yourself. Call it cheesy, call it corny, call it sappy, call it fromage... but the bottom line is this:

You said:
