looks like missle defence will be implement with Canada's input or not.
If Canada doesn't join it, the U.S will create a new central command there by making NORAD irrelavent. (Hrm making governing bodies irrelevant, sounds familiar)
Would creating a missle defence program create a new arms race? I don't think so. There are few countries who can afford to stock pile arms nowadays. Its highly improbable to see an arms race begin out of this.
Conventional warfare isn't what it used to be. The threat of immediate nuclear retaliation if someone attacked the U.S with a conventional nuclear missle is too great. You'll see more baby nukes and dirty nukes that are smuggled into the U.S before you'll see a conventional tactical warhead.
Since Canada won't be spending anything on this (right? somebody back me on this one), I don't see it as a HUGE political issues. Let's worry more about healthcare and pharmacare.
I see this as big brother U.S of A wanting to get its way, and in all honesty this issue isn't as important as many others. If anything we should at least keep military ties with the U.S so that we can keep on relying on their military powers to keep conventional threats to Canada at bay.
I'm not for building the missile defence program, but if the U.S is going to build it, despite Canada anyway we might as well go for the ride. |

| I agree, we should go along with it because it is free national defence. However, if we have to start paying for it then its a waste of money. |

Show me an example of where they said they completely opposed missile defence. |

Dont tell me that the media during the election didnt make a circus and spin the agenedas of the liberals. Its not that they reported that the liberals were against this, its that they reported that the conservatives were and conveniently left out the liberals. Then martin would make comments eluding to the conservatives cozying up to the US.
There is no denying the media spin during the election. |

Why are we putting money is something that is not necessary??
Billions of $$ are needed to get our army/navy updated with the latest technology, not something farfetched as STARWARS. Frankly, US defence technology sucks, their bombs dont hit the specefied targets, their satellites cant see the difference between a milk factory and weapons factory. Are we seriously going to let them fly war heads over our head to counter attack other war heads? The Bush Administration is using the excuse of 9/11 to promote Reagan's agenda from the 80's. Wait till the democrats come in, it will be put on the back burner.
