How do you become a fan of a national team for only 10 years?
Are you only 10 years old, or did you move there then?
*puzzled* |
Not really, my brother-in-law is a fan and introduced me to soccer and I really got into it in 94 for the world cup, he was a big italy fan, and so were all my friends at the time. So it kinda stuck with me. So like I said, whenever I get a chance to watch some italian soccer I do because it doesnt happen often. Im 20 yrs old, I wish I was alittle older and got into it into it earlier on when the great 82 italian team was playing. I would have loved to see Rossi play. |

Huh? You can't pick and chose your favorite national side.
There is a term for this, and its bandwagon jumping.
You are born in a country, or are a citizen of a country, and this is not negotiable.
This fact seems to be lost on a great many. |

Lol, I look at it this way, I was born into italian soccer through friends and family. I dont care for US soccer because its crap, in 2002 they finally made it out of the special olympic stages of soccer and actually moved someplace.
My definition of bandwagoning goes like this... anyone that wasnt a fan of the Yankees before 1996 is a bandwagoner. Ive been a fan since the late 80's, early 90's. Bandwagoners are people that jump from team to team rooting for the favored team. I just happened to luck out and have friends and family that liked Italy. |

I will warn you that any attempts to discuss football with me from this point forward could be harmful for your self esteem.
So you ditch your country of birth because they are crap? You are a ing disgrace.
I don't care if you come from botswana, you don't ditch your country. |

| soccer would be cool if the ball was on fire & instead of players running around kicking the ball they have to cary swords & battle tigers on the field. Instead of a goaly there should be a bar where a topless waitress serves you drinks. You get one shotty for every tiger kill (the tiger is of course one of those cyborg types that wont upset the greenies) yerrr soccer tis kewl |

But it is true, ManU would have 25 supporters out of England if they weren't successful, not 2,000,000,000. |
Oh really. Why? How do u know?
| quote: | | And every ManU fan became a fan when they weren't successful, or when they were 7 years old. I was merely pointing out this fact. |
Well, most people do start supporting teams when theyre very young dont they (well maybe not where ur from)? And since uniteds recent success only started in the early 90s, its fairly likely that anyone over the age of 14 did start supporting them before that.
| quote: | | But if you want me to post pictures of little red bandwagons, I'm more than willing to oblige. |
1. there are far more people on the i hate man utd bandwagon. Like u.
2. all successful teams have plastic fans
3. united have loads of real supporters
4. stop trying to avoid the original question. |

I never had to ditch it, US football didnt really exist, it was never popular. You need to remember, I live in the US where soccer is NOT #1 - we didnt have all these league tournaments and so on like the rest of the world, nor was it publicized back than. Like I said, I was born into loving Italy and italian soccer, might I add Ive also been an avid fan of AC Milan (Im always getting into fights with friends that are fans of Juve and Inter) for all those years.
And one more thing, if you dont like it... go yourself. |

This is getting tedious and I must say that I'm having difficulty staying within the moderator's realms of acceptable behaviour.
Who gives a flying whether its publicised or not?
You don't ditch your country just because you watched Italy at a World Cup with your brother in law ffs.
And apart from jumping onto the Italia bandwagon, you also jump onto the AC Milan one as well. You really are a concrete football supporter.
You are a lost cause. Imagine trying to argue with someone on why they should support their native country. |

I wasn't a fan of them after 1996 either though. :p

There is actually a version of football where the ball is alight and the players play in bare feet. :D |

I became a fan of AC Milan because I loved Roberto Baggio and Paolo Maldini.
This is pointless, this isnt worth the arguement.
Than again Baggio's missed penalty shot didnt exactly make me a happy camper. |
