Man arrested at Ex for the devious act of....

taking pictures!

Apparently some parents complained to the chief who happened to be on duty at the ex that some guy was taking pictures of their kids. The police sprang into action and arrested the guy and ransacked his house on a warrent.

Now, whether the guy is a wierdo or not is not whats at issue here. The fact is that this guy was arrested for taking public pictures in a public place. There were nothing sexual about the pictures. There was no harrassment going on from what i can tell. As i read it, the guy was taking pictures from a distance and people didnt like it.

Now think about the ramifications. What if one day you are out taking pictures and somebody decides that they dont like the fact that they happened to be in the shot. All of a sudden you get arrested and charged with mischief (since this act isnt actually illegal so theres no formal charge on the books for it).

This is some scary . The only time i ever remember hearing about people getting arrested for taking public pictures was in the old soviet bloc or in today's north korea.

Again this guy may or may not turn out to be a wierdo but arresting someone for simply taking otherwise legal pictures is disturbing in a "free" country.
High on PSI
meanwhile somewhere not too far away a real crime actually happend

I highly doubt you or I would have taken the effort to conceil our cameras by wrapping it with cardboard and such like this guy did. Why disguise your camera if your intentions are innocent? That alone gives the cops due cause to shut you down. The way they ransacked the house, I will agree is heavyhanded, but they did turn up 2 illegal switch blades which further casts shadiness to this guy.

This guy wasn't taking pictures of trees or general crowd shots. He was continually zooming in on kids with a camera he made concious efforts to conceal.

I say Well Done Chief!!!!

Jay - ask yourself this - if you were a father and a strange man would randomly be taking pictures of your kid - would you like that?

Now I don't want to say that he should be arrested, but he was resisting arrest and had to be taken down which means he might have been hiding something.

Would you like your kid to end up on someone's porn website?

so concealing a camera is illegal?

PS they wouldnt have found the switchblades had they not arrested him for the legal act of concealing a camera and taking pictures. So hopefully when these charges get thrown out, so will the ones resulting from this hopefully illegal arrest.

So these kids were naked in public? If so its the parents that need to be charged.

He wouldnt have resisted arrest had he not been arrested. And, since he shouldnt have been arrested this charge should also be dropped. Want to nab this guy for kiddie porn? Catch him downloading it which is actually an illegal act. Dont just charge him for doing what i would definately call questionable, BUT LEGAL things.

No but youre forgetting a lovely program called photoshop and the fact that the guy might have been taking pictures from "interesting angles"

In principal, yes, the arrest seems shady.

But if I saw a strange man taking pictures with a concealed camera of my child, I'd flip out a little too.
