My friend recently aquired a 5GB first generation IPOD. He plugs in his firewire connector. ITunes loads up then his screen goes black and his cdroms dont work for the first time he reboots after that. He formatted it to windows and still isnt having any luck. Are there any IPOD gurus out there that could assist me and my pal in the quest to pure IPOD bliss? |

Try getting a different firewire card, could be the one he's using is incompatible with that iPod (I hear the Audigy firewire ports are the worst, when it comes to the older iPods).
You can also try XPlay (it's a third party iPod windows software). I've used it, it works quite well, and it's relatively cheap. |

is he using a both a Mac and a PC or just a Mac?
you may have to update the software on the iPod.
I have a first generation iPod. I got it right after they released it. i used it on my mac, then formated it for my PC which i use Ephpod software and some other program which is needed for the mac compability, and now i'm using it on my mac again with the newest version of itunes.
i connected my ipod to my PC through the firewire port on my Audigy card |
