D&b breakdowns are more like techno breakdowns
i know D&B isn't famous for breakdowns but I heard a few good D&B songs with good breakdowns on xm radio can anyone recommend some songs?
I feel like im missing a lot of good music
thanks

High Contrast's remix of Paupa New Guinea is pretty sick, it goes from drum n bass beats to a straight breakbeat, then back to drum n bass.

Ah, when you asked this question, the more eclectic producers like John B, Teebee, Photek (earlier productions) came to mind because of their unique approaches to DnB. One of my favorites is:

DBA vs. John B - Falling

Full version is absolutely gorgeous, with Shaz's vocals.

Cool, beatclock division! I haven't heard High Contrast's remix of this classic but will have to... I know others like Aphrodite and Roni Size have used it towards their own means with much success. It's like it slows down by a factor of 2 so a 170 BPM track would be 85 BPM for a few bars, and then speeds up again.

Wow, I have a whole mental picture now... I'll have to hear this. :)

anyone know any good D&B forums?
how can you listen to trance and not know what a breakdown is? lol

in short: its the best part of the song, although that doesnt make the rest of the song crap
in other words, its the highlight of the song
for example in nu-nrg dreamland (a song everyone has heard)
its when the drums come in and increase in speed (a typical breakdown) and then anthem blares harder than ever

the average trance song uses cymbals at its breakdown
chhhhhhhh chhhhhhhhh chhh chhh chhh chh

Some breakdowns are more like breakups. I like psychological sonic tricks like that.

YES mndeg! So enthused you asked, go to:

DOGS ON ACID

Which might be a DnB analog to our TranceAddict. Very busy, active forum.

Now I have more formally Myst-linked these two worlds together thanks to you!!

Yup, as am I :)

And no worries... yeah usually in Trance, when you notice the bassy kick drum is missing for awhile and there's no more BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM -- just, say, a quiet pad or atmosphere ;) *That's* the breakdown. It will likely follow a buildup (snare drum roll going CH-CH-CH-CH CHCHCHCHCHCHCHCH!), like mndeg described. There are archetypical ways of doing this, and some of the more stranger methods, where you have every right to say "Is this a breakdown or not?" I enjoy those moments.
