Actually if they ever compete as a whole, most of those athletes wouldn't get to compete....In most events you have to qualify for the olympics at trials and send upto 3 representatives, or qualify in pre-olympic touneys to send teams so there are 8-16 spots. Thus the EU would only send a team about the size of the US, Russian, Chinese, or home country contingient.
You'd certainly lose plenty of medals, and probably overall funding for olympic sport as a whole since so many Fewer athletes could perform.
That's the simple reason to why American, British and French Territories (for example) compete under their own flag...not only because they can, but so that they can send what their best is and have a chance at medals and their national pride.
Sending an EU only team would be quite a blow to the olympics. The adding up of all EU medals is flawed, and isn't a good representation of what the outcome of any event would be if followed through with. |

its not like the more you send, the better chances you get. If the american olypic comitte see that an american athlet has any chances whatsoever to get a medal, they send him/her there, or? |
