Question for all DJs (pg. 2)

BPM counters are evil. Yes, you can use them, but if you do and end up in some environment without them you will be "S.O.L.". That aside most of the ones on mixers and TTs aren't that accurate anyways. I've got TTX1s and the BPM counter on them changes it's mind a bunch of times throughout the song. One time I tested it out and got 2 records matched up and let them play together for a while and at one pont the BPM counter was showing one record to be a full 10 BPM slower than the other. This, however, was not the case because by my ears I could tell they were spot on and had been for quite sometime.

They rarley ever work anyways

Use your ears! :haha:

So how do these things work? do they tell you the bpm or a flashing lights turn a certain color?
djxtension
Some use lights, others just use a display that tells you the bpm.

I don't use either of them.

Play it safe, play by ear. (Sounds like a condom-advertisement... :p )

lol

My TTX-1's have BPM counters in them, luckily you can switch them off.
I don't see the point since they are never really accurate anyway...

beat counters on effect mixers have a use. without them beat effects would be very hard to get right without getting a pen, paper, and calculator out to work out the timings. rough timings are a sinch (1/2 beat = approx 200-250ms depending on speed) but it always sounds better if you use the beat counter for it, and you can have the effect in for much longer as it won't go 'out'.

using a beat counter to beatmatch is pointless, unprecise, and will only end in disaster.
Ste
no, theyre .

only useful if you wanna dictate a pace to play at like for trance slow 135, med, 142 or fast 148.

I think the general opinion is no, they suck.

I have to say that I use them all the time and think they are fantastic. I think the whole dance floor should be able to see them too! My beat matching just got so much better since I scrapped a whole lifetime of DJing and started staring at the little red flashing lights. (That's irony for those of you who don't know)...

I hate them sooooooo bad. They are the worst feature ever seeing as I have never actually seen any that work. Not that you need them anyways.

Cheers

I can beatmatch 100% perfectly, and have never used beatcounters since i started 7 years ago,i think matching the speeds is the easiest aspect of djing, using the eq properly is what tends to get me sometimes.

I just love those one on Behringer VMX 200!:haha: They don't show bpm at all! But when they show, it still wrong! :tongue3
Anyway why to use them? It's more plesant to mix using ears, instead of bpm counters! :tongue2
