DJ Kenosis - Incantation

hey guys, I should have joined this site about a year ago, but alas I am horrible at procrastinating. If you haven't heard of me, I'm a trance dj in LA, starting to get (somewhat, I guess) noticed (played alongside some recognizable names recently...Stimulant Dj's, Jon Bishop, Dave Aude, and soon-to-be John Askew). I've been hitting the underground rave/warehouse scene pretty hard and skirting the clubs because I hate the political stuff with the club scene. Anyway, enough.... here's a link to my mix that I recorded in April.
Incantation
Tracklisting is.....
1. Mojado - Naranja (Mr Sam Vision)
2. The Ambush - Acapulco
3. Midway - Amazon (Sander van Dien remix)
4. 8 Wonders - The Morning After (Octagen's Night Before remix)
5. John '00 Fleming vs. Astral Projection - Mahadeva
6. Re:Locate - Waterfall
7. Fast Floor - Technology
8. Panama - Peaceful World (alternative mix)
9. Ray Clarke - Digital Interface (2nd club mix)
10. Active Sight - The Search for Freedom
11. Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Above & Beyond Dynaglide remix)
12. FX Zone - Synthasia (Nu Nrg remix)
Right after I put it up I realized that this wasn't mastered yet (I have the mastered version on cd's I hand out to people, but not online for some reason), but you'll get the idea. I play a lot of driving epic trance and hard trance and have recently started flirting with psytrance. I tend to play a lot of PUSH/MIKE stuff and, more recently, Arc in the Sky and JOOF.. yada, yada.
Feedback and constructive criticism would be very much appreciated :toocool: |

Sounds cool ;). You shouldn't have to register on that site to download it. I just right click on the disk icon and I get to download. But ya, whatever.....
And make sure to let me know what you think.

BTW do you have a direct link (e.g. http://www...incantation.mp3) so that TAs can download the mix much faster using an internet download software? I believe that a direct link would generate more downloads and hence, greater feedback. Thanks. | Incantation
Do a right click on that one and you should be set ;) |

If it seems like the set is playing fast then there are two responses. 1 - for some reason it does sound a tad fast and the webmaster noticed that: as if it were about 2 bpm faster than I recorded it and than I have on my cd. But I did a second listen and it sounded fine. Maybe my ears are playing tricks on me!
2- It is fast! I started out at 139 bpm and was up to 144 by Mahadeva and finish at about 141. I like to play a little bit faster. Everyone plays too slow nowadays....everyone except for JOOF when he has his psy sets :happy2: |

Sure thing. The JOOF remix of Mahadeva is borderline psy/hard epic trance and can work in a psy set (obviously, since JOOF plays it!), and Mindsensation - Daydreamer is also borderline psy. Um, the problem for me is that a lot of the psy I have is on cd, so it's tough to record it since I don't have a cdj unit. I have been playing a decent amount of it, though. If you look at my tracklistings on my website you'll see Electric Universe - The Prayer a couple of times. That one kicks ass ;).
I'll see what I can do, ok?

Greetz. Just listened and overall i like it. Technically the transtitions are good. You have some really slammin' tracks in the middle and toward the end. On the otherhand, I wasn't really too into the first two tracks though. The first sounds a lot like Deep Forest with the little african kids chorus sound. The second tracks sounds more house-like to me and is a little too beach-like or summery. To me they just don't fit in with the rest of the tracks. After these two tracks though, the set is SWEET. There are some really excellent tracks there. This mix is going on rotation for a good while.
If I was in the area, i'd defintely check out your show. Alas, i'm not. :(
I look forward to more slammin' mixes. Cheers. |

Thanks for the listen, man ;). I was really trying for a program set, meaning a set that evokes a very distinct idea or event or feeling. The feeling was one of a sort of tribal "incantation". The first two tracks were supposed to be the prelude or 'gathering' to set up the feel. If I had to do it over again I would have done the original mix of Midway - Amazon instead of the Sander van Dien mix as (I found out later) the transition from The Ambush - Acapulco to that to The Morning After is a lot smoother of a feel. The way I have it it either nicely demarcates the set to where there's a transition in feel (a different stage in the "incantation") or it seems too removed from everything else to fit in. Obviously you took the latter view and ya there are some other people who would probably agree. As far as the "deep forest" sounding track......I got so tired of listening to that when I was trying to master the mix that I think I've played it once in the last 4 months! I'm glad you liked the middle/end of the set. I tried really hard to get the tracks to feed off themselves to build energy, so I hope that worked: seems like it did for you. Anyway, thanks again for the feedback. :)

| I listened last night and I have to say it is a pretty good mix. The mixing was great. I agree with Spacey on the first two tracks. I am also not a big fan of As the Rush Comes so I wasnt into that one much. Other than that I enjoyed each track. Great work. Im looking forward to hearing more of your mixes. |

Yeah, the first version of this cd had the last three tracks as Active Sight - Search for Freedom, FX Zone - Synthasia (Nu Nrg remix), and Robert Nickson - Spiral. I'm thinking that I probalby should have stuck with the first version :D. Thanks again for the comments, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
