I'm a real newbie so go easy with the technical details. Is it possible to make a good track with only computer based software ? I have used Fruity loops but the sounds are really bad. I've heard about Rebirth and Reason what are these ? Also if I want to remix a song, how do I do that ?

If anyone can help me out I'd really appreaciate it.

PLUR :)

Today, with all the great softsynths and softsamplers you can get, I don't think you need any hardware gear at all to make pro tracks. I'd get "Reason" I think. Reason has got a synth, a sampler, effects, compressors and + + +. Everything you need in fact! "Reason" is almost like having a rack full of expensive equipment. Have you seen screenshots of it? :D

Check it out at: http://www.propellerheads.se
BTW you can also download a demo of it there.

ReBirth however, emulates three very wellknown vintage synths, TB-303, TR-909 and TR-808. TB-303 is an *acid like* bassline synth, TR-909 is the godfather of all trance- kicks, hihats and claps.

I hope this has helped you a bit! If there's something which is unclear, or if there's anything you want to know, just ask :)

You have to remember what you put into it is what you get out. What do you mean by it sounds really bad, or is it that you have the wrong notes in the wrong place.

For a beginger I would say you should get you self a coppy of Orion Pro, its a all in one music program, its 3 times cheeper that Reason and almost as good.

when you get into the Pro world you will need Hardware and Software
this is what a PRO setup would have in it.

*Cubase 5.0 (sequencer software)
*Nuendo 1.5(sequencer and movie software with 5.1-7.1 DVD souround sound)
*Waldorf Microwave xt, Novation SuperNova 2,Access Virus A or B ( three of the biggest Hard synths around, all great for Trance.
*VST Plug-ins and Instruments( a software must with Cubase, there are 100s of them)
*Midi Keyboard ( for all of them rack synths)

well I have used fruityloops for around 6 months and i have tweaked and tweaked and there is no way you can even begin to compare it to a hardware synth, i am saving up for a Yamaha CS6x .. it is an amazing synth, be sure to check this one out

its not an analogue synth, but that's not what i wanted :D

software synths are getting close to hardware in terms of sound quality, but hardware will always be ahead simply because they are built soley for what they do.. IMO :D

Well first of all, its good to see someone starting to produce!

You can start with Fast Tracker 2, only the sound quality is'nt good!
(I used this when i began a few years ago :) )

There are some quite good programs on the market :

ACID MUSIC, REBIRTH, FRUITY LOOPS.

These are all complete programs to start producing.

But.........

If you start buying equipment like myself, then it can be a big step in your producing future.

Its hard in the beginning, start saving money and start with essential things like : Drumcomputer, Synth, Sampler.
Then move forward and invest money in upgrading or buying new equipment!!!

And Finally, start making real tunes, and get a record contract!!!!!
