the thing i forgot was what this stupid pheonomenon/fallacy/thingermajiger was called!!!
i remeber it was a pretty neat name and its been bugging me forever!

time for your probability math nerds to come out and shine!

I believe you are thinking of the Gambler's Fallacy. It is so named because a gambler on a losing streak believes that his luck is more likely to change just because he's been losing for so long.

I dont get it. Why would you consider this a theory and name it? Its called "theres always two possible outcomes."

Maybe Im missing something.

Logical fallacy?

It's true about the heads/tails thing too. Heads is slightly more likely to occur than a tails, but to say there are only 2 outcomes is incorrect. If the coin was flipped an infinite number of times eventually it would land on the 3rd side. :D

actually its not 50/50... see the tails half of the coin ways a little more than the heads half, so its more likely to get heads each time. if you flipped it 10,000 times you are going to get something like 4965 tails and 5035 heads. thats because the tails side is heavier, so it is more likely to end up on the bottom. its like 49.7/50.3 but yeah, i just felt like being an ass:D

My thoughts exactly.

So it's like getting HIVs. There is equal probability of getting infected as there is of not getting nothing when the outcome is unknown right? No matter how many partners you have? Each case is independant? That is, each girl/guy is a different story?

Mixing it up with sex works for me better with this type of crap.

Why does it matter?
A.J.
Var(X) = E(X)^2 - [E(X)]^2

Damn im 1337.

Z = X - Mean / SD <---- transformed variable

:p i'm doing statistics/econometrics right now, its such a bitch of a subject, although not too hard.
