Programing Kick Drums!

hi guys! I read a post on TA the other day (damned if I can find it again!) about programing kick drums from scratch! What software would I need to do this? Is there a program especially for producing kick drums? Samples are good but I find most I pick up have a click or breathe too much at the end! Besides samples are not your own work!!!

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

to program a kick... you would generally want to start with an audio editing program like cooledit or soundforge.

Create a sine wave... and shape the volume so that it curves down nicely like a kick should normally do.

There are several things you can do from now on... add distortion, reverb, equalize, etc...

the important thing is that you'll want to compress it again afterwards, and set the volume envelope again so that it curves down in the way of a kick...

you can also try laying a hi hat, clap, or kick on top of it to give it the mid or high presence that the kick may need a bit.

you may want to create or use several kick samples, and then layer them around, edit some of the envelope and compression, equalize it... mess around with it a bit to create your own kick..

there are several in depth tutorials on creating kicks in this forum... just search a bit harder for it and you'll find it

Reason will do as well.

Have fun!

Reason has a few good patches for the subtractor & maelstrom you can use as a start to make your own kicks with.

There's a really great program called Stomper, that lets you create kickdrums. Download it here

programming kick drums? what do you mean by that? btw, most dance music is based on samples, it does not matter if all your drum kits are samples, what matters is what you do with it. don't be so picky. if you still want to be picky, then try fxpansion dr-008 or linplug rmIV - vst drum samplers with percussion generators. i like dr-008 pretty much. if your samples have a click or breathe too much, either set up the envelope in your sampler or edit them in your wave editor.
