How long do you listen to each track when you're in the record store?

Usually I dont give the whole track a listen, I just skip thru it. I can usually tell if a record fits my "sound" by only a bit of it. And if it catches my attention I listen to more. I go thru stacks of vinyl like its my job. Usually I give a track 1 minute minimum, 30 secs for DnB cause its more repetitive/predictable. I can go thru about 30 records in about an hour and usually I'll pick only 4 or 5. Of course, those 4 or 5 get much more attention than 1 minute.

Yea, I'm pretty fast when it comes to picking out tracks. I listen for maybe 45 seconds, skipping from intro to the main, and the breakdown. I go though about 60 records in an hour, but I do take my time with the ones that get my attention.

i've usually heard most of them on the internet somewhere before i buy them at the store hehehe...so i usually know what i'm buying...i usually just check em out and make sure they are not scratched and . the tracks that i haven't heard before i might listen a good deal more...mostly cause i don't wanna buy crap...

i judge on melody, beat, and sometimes vocals. if i even listen to 10 seconds of it and i like the melody, i will get it

i like to hear a good couple of minutes worth of what i am buying, skipping through to important bits etc etc

if its one thing i hate, its those people who listen to 5 minutes of each record in a pile of 20, while you are waiting to get on the turntable.

i'm exactly the same way.

i know what i like and don't like very, very quickly. but the stuff that grabs my attention a bit more i listen to a bit longer.

I make my first selection by listening to beginning, break, end of the break for about 30 secs/ record. After I made that selection, I listen to them somewhat more carefull to make my final choice

^^^^^^ Yea thats exactly what I do. But sometime I have a bad habit of buying certian records when I am in a certian mood only to ask myself a week later why I bought this crap. I am trying to be more "careful" buying records now. I usually try to listen to the song 3 or 4 times over and over until I can difitively say "yes its good".

Same here, unless its a track I know about, then I just check to see that the record is in good condition, I'm also VERY picky now, as I can and have got way out of hand sometimes, I'm always looking for that certain sound, that is my style.

I also hate those twats that listen to the entire record near enough, next time I'm gonna smack then over acroos the face with there record then make them eat it.
