Apparently, fighting against a group of people who target children to advance their ideology isn't a cause that's worthy enough for your culture-neutral platitudes. Please, if you don't want to take sides in this fight, move yourself to a nation that does not enjoy the benefits of either ideology. | ;) |

Chechnya != Iraq. Are you trying to justify the deaths of Iraqi innocents by pointing to an event perpetrated by an entirely seperate group of people in a completely different part of the world? What's the connecting factor here, race? Anything else? Would you be willing to tell the relatives of dead and maimed that these casualties are entirely justified on the basis that a group of Chechnyans (some of whom just happened to be Abrabic) killed a lot of school children that they had been holding hostage, to promote a cause that had absolutely nothing to do with Iraq or its people?
In saying that, you've just highlighted another common failure of the right - a complete inability to distinguish between completely disparate and unconnected causes and events, just because any common link (in this case, religion and race) can be identified. I'm happy to discuss the merits of the Iraqi war with you and I'll gladly join you in condemnation of what happened in Russia, but in trying to lump several different issues together as though they were in any way connected, you're merely displaying a distinct inability to separate particulars from your own preconceived generalities.
More to come. |

Until you people realize the huge amount of state supported terrorism carried out by the US under the pretext of the Monroe doctrine, that argument holds absolutely no water. Ok so they killed 3000 people in an office building and 350 including children at a school. How does that come anywhere near all of the women and children butchered in Central America under the Reagan admisistration, how does that stack up to the thousands and thousands of Iraqi citizens we've murdered or the thousands of Iraqi children that have been dying in hospitals since the first gulf war because of our sanctions and embargos. Get your head out of your asses and realize why they hate the US in the first place they aren't animals that enjoy killing for fun. They're people that have been completely abused and mistreated by our government. Take the plank out of your own eye before you take the speck out of your brother's. |

Until you have the entire world come forth and tell me that is TERRORISM....you're argument holds no weight. Other than that you are basically talking about civilians casualties..which I must say, God bless their souls.
You say 3000 like its a small number ..heh..

ALSO:
THe countries over there :
may half-heartily condemn SOME attacks, but at the same time place blame on others (the West, Jews, ect), in essence justifying the actions of the terrorists.
You on the other hand have not condoned any attacks at all..which is quite sad.
Face it dude, : Islam has been commandeered by radicals. The voice of moderacy is long gone.
The moderates are Powerless.
Little more than paper tigers.
Militant Islam is an Accepted part of Arab society that enjoys wide-spread support |

That is the crux of it. For those in this discussion looking for a common thread between each act of modern violence perpetrated against Western society - that's it. Islam.
I'll let Mark Steyn finish this one with his latest editorial. Click on the link if you want to read the whole thing. (Note that the opinion piece mentions the article that started this whole thread).

Mark Steyn, 6 September 2004
...What happened in one Russian schoolhouse is an abomination that has to be defeated, not merely regretted. But the only guys with any kind of plan are the Bush administration. Last Thursday, the President committed himself yet again to wholesale reform of the Muslim world. This is a dysfunctional region that exports its toxins, to Beslan, Bali and beyond, and is wealthy enough to be able to continue doing so.
You can't turn Saudi Arabia and Yemen into New Hampshire or Sweden (according to taste), but if you could transform them into Singapore or Papua New Guinea or Belize or just about anything else you'd be making an immense improvement. It's a long shot, but, unlike Putin's plan to bomb them Islamists into submission or Chirac's reflexive inclination to buy them off, Bush is at least tackling the "root cause".
If you've got a better idea, let's hear it. Right now, his is the only plan on the table. The ideology and rationale that drove the child-killers in Beslan is the same as that motivating cells in Rome and Manchester and Seattle and Sydney. In this war, you can't hold the line against the next depravity.
