Which of these Processors would be best?

What is more important for a production comp on the processor end....... To have a processor that's slower at 2.8 but with a larger cache.. or the faster one with a smaller cache?
- Pentium 4 2.8E GHz "Prescott" 1MB cache
- Pentium 4 3.0C GHz 512KB cache |

| I guess u'd have more power with a larger cache than with just 200mhz extra |

Seriously, the Northwood (512 kb cache one) is still the best right now.
The Prescotts are a new batch, and they have exactly the same problem as when Intel switched over from the P3 to the P4 : at the same clockspeed, the older model outperforms the new one.
Same goes for the Prescotts, the 3.0C even outperforms the 3.0E, and besides it runs quite a bit hotter too. Eventually it will settle out, but the Prescotts out right now aren't quite there yet. And the extra cache really doesn't give it any advantage right now as far as I noticed. |

1mb cache settles it, go for the prescott :)
thoose 200mhz will be hardly noticable but the cache is a big performanceboost :) |

How is that possible? :|
I bet you've got one of the old ones and are just trying to justify that yours is better :P
Phantax, I'd go the 1mb cache, as they said 200mhz difference isn't going to be noticeable anyway. |

Thats from teoretics size, in practics, Northwoods are tha best. The real one is Northwood 2.4/533/800. Rulez all! Maybe someday Prescots will rule out Northwoods, but now its immposible due to large " command line" in Prescot architecture. |

| Prescotts get really hot and, right now, offer very little to no speed advantage. Go for the Northwood. |

ohh god this guy is a dumb , the 1mb cache is awesome seriously what are you en stupid get the one with 1mb cache and overclock that bitch i mean overclock it at 3.2 and your set specially with the 1mb cache it makes a huge ass differnce. hope im not too late to save a up purchase LOL. only reason i know is becuase reccntly i was looking up cpus and i came across some tests done on various cpus in fact ill post a link to let you all learna little. HERE so check it out its intresting that really helps before you buy a system and if you need a place to find cheap prices for the goto Price Watch hope this helps.
Heres a cheap system for about the same price that will accutalyl total own thht p4 sytem and for probly close to the same price this stores decent and is cheap.

cache is the next to fastest memory storage in the computer, right? (Blows ram from heaven to hell) So I'd definately go for 1 mb cache. You'd want it for loading the VST and streaming the samples.
+200 Mhz? Don't think you'd ever notice any difference...
But then there is the differences between Prescot and Northwood... Northwood are rumoured to produce better chipsets... are they not? I'd still go with the 1 mb cache though... same is for Harddisks, get them with as high cache as possible. |

I don't understand peoples fascinations with AMD 64s... There arent any 64 bit programs out there so that "amazing" new processor is only going to run at 32-Bit anyway, and probably worse than a similar speed XP. I'm probably completely wrong so maybe someone can enlighten me.
Personally, theres no way I would buy one. My last 3 processors were AMD's cause theyre cheap and I didnt have any money (student). Personally i'm sick of their bs of being too hot and having to have loud fans and (not good for an audio studio), i'm never getting one again :whip:

Thats not enough memory, and that soundcard is crap... You didnt need to talk about this stuff and could save yourself the embarrassment, we're only talking about the CPU. "OMG LOOK AT ME I'M TEH LEET I CA CONFIGURE A COMPUAR LOL!!!1"
BTW. Doesn't that link ZxZDeViLZxZ posted clearly show P4s raping all the non-FX AMDs? Isn't it stupid to buy an AMD 64 3400+ when it got beaten so badly? |
