i've been having problems since i got my router installed as i need to have both my computers connected to the internet.
the problem i have when i set them both up on the router is that i cannot connect to MSN on either pc, and also cannot get my ftp server working.

well here you go. It all depends what router you are using.
For MSN you most likely need to enable UPnP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...sysbefsr41.mspx
for FTP, well that's tricky. For routers it's best to use port 21. You also have to forward the ports. Now if you still have problems you might to enable passive ports AND forward those ports to you computer as well AND if the other person still has problems they might have to enable "This ftp is behind a firewall or NAT" in their client such as FlashFxp.

You'll have to open up port 21 on your router/firewall.
Also for msn check the connection settings under options. |
