| I don't think I've used my crossfader in like 6 months. Took awhile to shake the habit though. |

this is what the gain knob is for :)
i personally use the up faders to bring in a track or take it out. if i cut or sample stuff i use the x-fader. easier to get it faster, and you can do a straight track swap momentarily much easier. |

Who cares? Every mix is different, despite the way you guys come across (i.e. you do every mix the same way!). Who says you have to use all/any of them at all? There are tunes which sound excellent when you whack them in, no lowering of the volume, no EQing, just bosh the X-fader over. Other mixes you bring it in gently, using X-fader, channel faders AND EQ.
Every tune is different - EVERY mix is different. I see posts on TA all the time, asking how people do their 'transitions' - there is no single answer you can give!
Apologies for......actually no - fcuk that! Every time you mix a tune in, do something a little differently and you'll learn for yourself the INFINITE number of ways you can mix tunes together. |

nope, never use it.
the little bastard pisses me off sometimes though - when i start mixing and i dont notice its not right in the middle and all the volumes are screwed up - it took me fookin ages once to figure out it was the xfader causing it :whip: |

| i dont like it. i like to use the channel faders all the way, they give you much more control over the music. |

Good thing that the crossfader on a Nuo 5 can be disabled ;) |

Yep, I've done the same. I was mixing for a couple hours on my own and spent almost all of it trying to figure out why one channel was lower than the other. I fiddled with cords, gain, EQ, and was about to come to the conclusion the mixer was broke when low and behold I notice the x-fader wasn't in the center. Tak about pissed. I could have ripped it off the mixer about then.
As you can see from above, I do not use the x-fader hardly ever. I've tried but I like the control of the volume faders. Occasionally the x-fader comes in handy, but more often then not it doesn't. |

I use the crossfader (set to a nice gradual contour) and the eq's simultaneously.
I find it much more comfortable to use one hand to control the single cross fader, while using my other free hand to change the eq's throughout the mix. Whenever I try using the channel faders, it just seems like more work because I constantly have to move both hands from each respective fader to the eq's, back and forth, back and forth.
With the crossfader, one hand just hovers over it, moving it across at key points in the mix, while the other hand hovers over the eq section, making little changes throughout.
It's all personal preference though. If you ever end up playing in a club, there's a good chance you'll have to use only rotary knobs anyway, so whether or not you're used to channel faders or the crossfader won't make too much of a difference. |

never ever, its the only way to scratch dj tho, when used properly is a wicked tool, but not my preference for trance/prog

Plus you’ve got a free hand to do something else then too (EQ, correction, effect, etc), as you're effectively controlling two sources at once. |

i use it when sampling, cutting or scratching. for normal trance mixing i dont use it.
and i too have been the victim of an offset xfader and thought my mixer was broken for about 20 minutes. oh man ive never felt so stupid in my life :p |
