Automation Mapping

Hey All,

I'm wondering if its possible to map/draw automation from a VSTi, for example say if i want to increase to cutoff of a certain sound instead of moving the VSTi's knobs i could simply draw out the way to cutoff would work.

Any helps would be great.

Thanks All

In Cubase this can be done easily press "Write" in the VST window.. then.. simply move the knobs u want to write mapping with.. the u press "read" ..after that u open the "vst instrument" foler.. right click and press "Show All Automation" ... all the knobs u moved should be appearing with a blue curve for u too edit..

but if u are using another sequencer than Cubase I cant help you ;)

Ah perfect thanks subtle thats great!

you can do that in cubase but I'm not sure about Logic...to do it in cubase all you do is select the track that has the insert effect or send effect enabled on it, then click the + sign, thats plus sign, in the bottom left hand corner of the selected tracks..this is located on the left side and every track has it. when you click it, it will turn too a - sign and you will see a new track under it that is used for automation. it should say volume at the start..all you do is click the drop down menu and choose which function you want to automate, if you can't see it then select "more" and it should be there. Now you have the automation track set to the function you want. Now click the "R" in the automation track and the black line will turn green(you will see it when you do it) now all you have to do is draw the way you want it automated by double clicking teh lien to make a dot and then chnaeg teh lines positions..keep doing so until you are satisfied.

-This method records your movements-for example turning the cutoff-

Now that was the manual way...what you can also do is do all the steps up until I told you to press "R" instead press "W" now what you want to do here is simply press record and turn teh knob that you have set in teh automation function and it will record its movement...your all done.

I really hope you are using Cubase cause that was a pain in the ars to write.

Edit: Damn I hate wasted posts!
