Titans-Dolphins game moved to Saturday

MIAMI (Sept. 9, 2004) -- The Miami Dolphins' opening game against the Tennessee Titans will be played Saturday instead of Sunday because of approaching Hurricane Ivan.

Ivan could reach southern Florida as soon as Sunday, forecasters said. The Dolphins and Titans had been scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. EDT that day. The game will now be played Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. ET at Pro Player Stadium. The sold-out game will be televised in the Miami and Tennessee home territories by CBS.

"It's pretty wild," linebacker Junior Seau said. "Where I come from, we have earthquakes. It just happens. Here, you can monitor hurricanes for days and days and your life stops.

"With the weather we have, it can scare a lot of our fan support away and that's understandable."

For the Dolphins, the scheduling change is the latest development in a preseason that included the retirement of running back Ricky Williams and concerns about Hurricane Frances. The storm last week prompted talk of a player boycott when the Dolphins were forced to play an exhibition game in New Orleans against their wishes as the storm threatened Florida.

"We're bullet-proof at this point," coach Dave Wannstedt said. "There's nothing that anyone can do or say that will hurt us. Everyone knows what we've been through."

why do people see this as a matchup of real good teams

more like a great team vs. a team with bigger gaps than the grand canyon

Well for starters Miami still has a top 5 defense. Tennessee has lost a lot of key components in the off season as well. I see it more like a matchup of two decent teams, who MAY squeek into the playoffs.

Top 5 defence just keeps you in the games and if your offense cannot score, yer ed, look at buffalo. I see Titans making the playoffs and the fish just losing out on that.

Good example. I guess im just hoping that a conservative passing offence can be established in Miami, cause really it looks like that will be the only way they can move the ball. I dont know much about this Lamar Gordan they got from the Rams, but its gotta be better than what they've got already.

Gordon wont play this week , I really dont see my team doing good with just Minor. This game might be ugly, since its the only game on saturday I guess that means the whole country will see it??If so a win would be great to shut alot of people up.

I'm a natural skeptic, see a win to me gets the response so what. As far as I'm concerned, you either win the super bowl or you are a loser. There is no prize for second place and besides the olympics, that's life. Carolina came oh so close but they did not win, and they went home pissed off. In sports, either you win the prize or you have failed, sounds harsh but that's reality.

Miami has had holes for years and I don't see anything changing. Miami's defence is not good enough to win them games, like how Baltimore and Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl in their years with defences that were rock solid. The defence can only do so much and if your offence can't score, your defence will be on the field more often, tire out more often and give up more points and you will lose more games. I don't see the fish making the playoffs and I see them sacking their coach at the end of the year.

well I agree with pretty much everthing you said.I mean if you look at my predictions in the other thread Im not to high on the my team this year.Lamar Gordon may make the team a bit respectable.I agree with the whole evryone else but the champs are losers but the NFL season is so long so people take each regular season game seriously and people dont look ahead as much as you do.
