as long as they don't open their doors at 1am like "some" clubs of that nature... start it off early so some of us old geezers can enjoy it for a couple of hours as well. |

Friday format will be "Republik on the Edge" Live to Air with Lana and DJ Schwarma in the Republik playing Rock/Alternative and inside Vision (second Room) with have DJ Thomas doing retro and anthems...
Saturday, the doors open at 10:00 with Various locals playing House in the Republik going to 7:00 AM with locals and International DJ's... Vision will Urban early on moving to House late night with a more soulful flavour (International DJ's are booked aswell for this room)...
I will announce who the residents (Local and Inernational) are for Saturdays as we get closer to the opening date... We cannot do this to early due to commitments contractually with some DJ's.
Thursdays... we are planning as we speak...
Feel free to send me a note directly if you have any questions and please remember that if you something constructive to say... Please do it as we are listening...

The hip hop in the small room wont be the typical mainstream BS. It will be a room for the true hip hop fans. Im a hater against hip "pop" as i call it but i really like the real soul hip hop which is what the genre was originally all about.
Having said that, the main room on saturdays is what it's all about for me!
I know that Republik is striving to be not just another nightclub "bar" but a place where music enthusiasts can go and hear good music. Whether its the rock night, a hip hop and soul night or an electronic night it won't be the same old crap thats for sure.

I am very glad to see a new venue opening up in the city that will be bringing in additional talent and an additional option for places to go.
However I fear that with the above format layout - Republik will be entering into an already competative Saturday night marketplace.
Saturday night is already full of options (Guvernment, Boa, Arc) for traditional EDM. It seems as if you've picked the most competative night to launch your EDM night.
Friday - already having limited options for traditional EDM (SystemS) - to me would seem a "less risky" option.
I wish Republik the best of luck and will support it fully. Further I hope going head-to-head with the city's two deepest pockets (Guv + Boa) will work out for your Saturday night plans.

re: shapeshifters...friends of mine saw them in ibiza and said they played an awesome set...think they have a mixed cd out there too...
really interested to see how this will play out...
not sure if toronto can support another afterhours venue...but good luck with it... |
