NEEDLE HELP? Ortofon vs. Stanton

Hello,
I'm currently using shure M44G's, and would like a second set of needles. I'm looking at either the Ortofon Concorde Pro, or Stanton Trackmaster 2. I'm using Spherical needles, so I'd like to stick to spherical needles. Any recomendations?, I mainly mix with a little scratching here and there. I want something that sounds great, lasts a while, won't harm my vinyl, and will be able to handle scratching.

Trackmaster 2 are pretty worthless elements. If you said 500MKII, they still are worthless comared to a Concode Pro. And with the Ortofon, you can still make a choice between the Concorde Pro or the DJ S. The DJ S is advangeable if you have very good turntables (either SL's or super OEM machines). If you don't have those, you should get the Concorde Pro. |

ortofon's are generally not very good for scratching or anything involving sharp movements of records. they are ok and probably doable, but they will piss you off after a while if you are serious about scratching.
if i had to pick out of the carts you have mentioned i would say ortofon's |

Id argue the opposite.
Played an urban night last night, loads of scratching.
As always, ortofons faultless- not one skip all night.
No experience with the shures, but id recommend ortofons 110% for general playing and/or scratching. |

strange, although there is an ortofon scratch cart i think. the ortofons i had were pretty crap for scratching with, they were concorde pro s's. they would be ok for the odd little scratch but if i tried anything extensive they would always jump a beat every now and again, which you don't want at all :)
i have since got the shure whitelabels, they are god. |

i am yet to use any concorde needles, but i do own a pair of the spherical trackamster 2's, and let me tell ya, they're crap. i spose wound quality is good and all (who can really tell when you are paying for higher end equipment anyways), but they skip A LOT compared to my experiences with other needles. ive just used the trackmasters, the numark ones that came with my old tables, and now i use m447's. i never use the trackmasters anymore, actually im currently seriously contemplating selling them, but ive got to find someone that has never used em, otherwise i wont get for em...
anyways my recomendations: dont get the trackmasters, very shoddy for how much they cost. |

Concorde Pro's aren't meant for scratching. Get the Ortofon Scratch for those ;)
But like I said, all Ortofons are the same. The only difference is the needle. So e.g. if oyu have a Concorde Pro and you want a DJ S, you can simply place a DJ S styli on the Concorde Pro (looks like crap though, blue and silver don't match :D) and you have a DJ S! |

yea.. those orto scratch carts kick some ass.
get the OM headshell orto's thou, if your gonna scratch, and get the scratch (red) stylii.. this combo is as good as orto's will get.
i'm not sure i'd even bother thou - those M44G's are *awesome* carts.
much less tracking force than an orto, sound just as good, and hold the groove just as good... i dont see the point, in all reality.
the orto pro's are nothing special... atleast get the DJ blue stylii if you go orto. nightclubs are nice but they dont seem to track all that great, but sure sound awesome! |
