hi all sorry to be such a n00b but iv been collecting vinyl a long time and now its time for me to get some decks, the package im looking at consists of 2 decks a mixer slipmat lead etc, and since budget is tight im skimping on the speakers, so here is my question, do speakers plug into the mixer? and if so what connection are speakers? is it that red and white left and right connection?
thanks in advance for your help guys :D |

Every signal that comes out of your mixer is a LINE signal. That means, a signal of maximum 2 volts. That'll never be enough to power a speaker. You need to feed that LINE signal to an amplifier. The amplified signal can be used to power the speakers.
Unless your speakers are powered, that means you have a built-in speaker in the amplifier (like the EON from JBL). In that case, you can give the LINE signal the the powered speaker 'cuz the amp INSIDE the speaker will boast the signal. |

What he means is some speakers come with built in amplifiers, so you don't need to buy an external amplifier like most systems, these tyope of speakers are called "active speakers", non amplified speakers are called "passive", if you have pc speakers, then they will be "active", thats why they have a volume knob on the front, since the amplifier for them is built inside the speaker.
hope this helps. |
