Do you think he'd be able to tell us the origins of the term "progressive" once and for all? :D

“But dancing became less inhibited as the music changed and the lasses were soon putting their handbags in the middle of the floor and dancing round them.”

Wow.. that quote cracked me up... Women always do this, it is hilarious to watch as dudes walk through those 'impenetrable' circles and blindly walk over the purses without even noticing.

progressive house was around for a good while before what you call "trance" was ever deposited on the earth to haunt me.

leftfield, spooky, lemon interrupt, underworld, william orbit, drum club, 10th chapter..these were all seminal prog acts back in the day when prog was prog. they referred to it as dub house disco....elements of US house, dub(the prominence of basslines and reverby, delayed noises) combined with the UK and Italian melodic edge that was happening around that time. yes,a lot of prog records are boring to listen to by themselves, but no more so than techno. techno as a genre is designed to be mixed, same with good prog. if the dj you heard was mixing over the last 45 seconds or minute of his/her records, then of course its going to be boring for you...but if ther dj was riding long in key mixes and using the mixer as a creative tool rather than just as a means to get from one record to the other, then youd have felt the energy that a well programmed prog set can bring to the floor.

more info ...

From 113 FM...

"Progressive House is to the electronic music world what independent films are to the silver screen. It oozes the same sort of class, integrity, and maturity, without the cheesy frills and corny one-liners. It may lack the instant gratification of trance and hard house, but the depth and journey-like nature of the progressive sound keeps you locked in for the long haul.

Its subtle, atmospheric roots date back to around 1992, the same time as italian piano stompers by the likes of Black Box were packing sweaty clubs and the harder warehouse sound of hardcore techno was emerging. Some of the first players to deliver this new sound were Leftfield with Song Of Life and Gat Decor with the all-time classic, Passion. These tracks also brought about a major advance in production quality, setting the new standard for electronic music. DJs John Digweed and Sasha rapidly adopted and promoted progressive house - it soon became their trademark - and it quickly became the staple diet for superclubs such as Renaissance."
