SPEEDY J / CHRIS LIEBING – COLLABS 300 - NEW 12“
RELEASE DATE: 27th September 2004
Cat. No. : 12NOMU136

Collabs 300 is the third in a series of three releases which sees Speedy J working together with other producers. This release unites Speedy with one of Germany’s highest profile DJ/Producers - Chris Liebing.

Chris and Jochem met in 2001 when Chris asked Jochem to remix his CLR07 release. The package came out with mixes from Adam Beyer, Gaetek, and Steve Rachmad. To promote the release, Chris invited all of the remixers to join a tour through Germany, taking in Germany's most notorious Techno clubs; Palazzo, Club Achtermai, the U60, etc. It was so successful that they repeated it the next year. By that time, Chris and Jochem had also met at numerous other events. Chris was invited to work on this release for the Collabs series, and he visited Jochem’s studio in Rotterdam to begin work. These sessions were so fruitful that more releases may be in the pipeline. In addition to their recording work, the pair have started playing DJ/Live sets together – including a notable gig in Detroit during the DEMF, where they played St Andrew’s Hall utilising a huge array of tools including decks, laptops, controllers, live instruments and effects. Their live jams blur the boundaries between DJ sets and live P.A. Further joint ventures will follow in the future...

A1) Trikco – The brutally tough drums charge into earshot with little regard for coaxing you gently into the music. There's no mistaking the producers' intention with this one. The King Of Schranz and the man who brought you tracks such as ’Pannik’ and ’Electric Deluxe’ are taking no prisoners! The tinnier qualities of the opening percussion are beefed up by layer upon layer of extra effects and EQ variations - somewhat of a Speedy speciality. Undoubtedly one for the toughest of Techno dancefloors...

AA1) Treflon is a slower, less linear affair - quirky and experimental, with an unintelligible reversed vocal sample and some really glitched-out background noise - quite reminiscent of some of Ricardo Villalobos' work, particularly his sprawling remixes. It's almost as if the noise you're hearing is the sound of Speedy's studio complaining about the hammering he gave it making Trikco - a revolt from within the wires! It’s a great contrast to the straight-up poundfest of the A-side.
