Well, at first i'd like to say i'm a picky m0f0 and want to correct you a bit.. Too Much Rain isn't actually just ATB's original work but more like a remix and a production combined because there isn't an "Original Mix", all the versions are sort of remixes but still original productions. ATB and a pack of other artists/projects were given the samples to work with by an unknown source (they want to stay that way i guess). The result is known as United Deejays For Central America - Too Much Rain with 12 different views, "ATB vs. Woody van Eyden Mix" being one, but "Red5 vs. Hypertrophy Mix" is by far the best of the 12 versions. All the 12 remixers out of Germany's finest at the time were working with their sounds for charity reasons to help the victims and people who lost their homes and families in the massive hurricane in Middle America back in fall '98. Major part of the record's selling profits were donated to the people there to rebuild their homes and lives.

Many great smoothies have been said but i'll give a few more, varying from more ambient works to trancey approach.

Sunstar - Balearic Desire
Karen Ramirez - Looking For Love (Trouser Enthusiasts Joy Of Sex Mix)

Chicane feat. Caroline Lavelle - Lost You Somewhere (Original Mix/Heliotropic Remix)
Chicane - Sunstroke (Original Mix/Disco Citizens 'On The Train' Remix/White Mix)
Chicane feat. Salt Tank - Leaving Town (Original Mix)
Mirco de Govia - Voller Sterne (Original Mix)

Mmmmmm nice. I like that Moby B-Side, "Flying Foxes".
And oh, since only Moby can do it like Moby can, you will likely wanna watch out for his next album, xTranceGurlx. It's rumored to hit in April or around that time of next year, 2005. Word has it that it will be guitar-based and filled with emotional songs.
Are you into the music of Enigma, Deep Forest, that sort of "enigmatic" or "ambient ethnotechno" stuff? It's very sensual, scintillating stuff that combines aboriginal and other types of chanting -- like Moby's "Porcelain", which is a masterstroke -- with contemporary beats. I recommend Enigma's LSD "Greatest Hits" album and Deep Forest's "Boheme". Two of my favorite songs from each would be:
Enigma - Return To Innocence
Enigma - Beyond The Invisible
Deep Forest - Marta's Song
Deep Forest - Boheme
Also, in some capacity remixed for the dancefloor, would be Delerium and Conjure One (who are in fact related ;) ).
More dancey but very beautiful -- and also has piano -- check out another of Moby's b-sides, "Shining". |

My fav Deep Forest album is their first one from 1992, titled simply "Deep Forest". It includes Sweet Lullaby, the track Mauro Picotto sampled in his Komodo (Save A Soul). Original mixes of Komodo didn't have that but a spoken female sample "Wait.. Please". Later on Picotto wanted to sample Sweet Lullaby in his tracks. Lizard Man seem to have a softer side too.
Shining is a beautiful piano driven track from mid 90s, b-side of Into The Blue. I wonder if i have the single somewhere.. have most of them anyway. I like most Moby's older works much more than his recent ones. The new ones still have the Moby feel but they are missing the "something" for me even if they are still nice. |

Some good choices. What about the original "Reacher's of Civilization"? If she likes the stringy sounds, she's probably like that. Also, you might like Cygnus X - Superstring (Rank One Remix), or Rank One - Airwave. |
