Why do male vocals work in Rock Music but Not so well in EDM (pg. 4)

Rock has been male dominated for a while now, and only recently have females entered the mainstream as "frontmen".
I think the same is typical of EDM, trance in particular. Female vocals seem to be the norm, as cheese tends to be a popular genre that leads new listeners into EDM. And it seems only recently tunes with male vocals have become more prevalent through recognition.
Duncan Sheik - On A High [Love From Humbolt Vocal]
Blackwatch vs Quivver - Loveless
Michael Burns - Corrective Tones [Panoptics Open Sky Mix]
Kyau vs Albert - Velvet Morning [Mirco de Govia Mix]
I've been out of the loop a while, but those tunes are yum. |

| like many say, it's a matter of taste, i like male vocals to a certain degree, i can't stand the high pitched male vocals because it sounds sissy. but it is also the fact that dance music has always had the female vocalists and many get used to that and block out any tracks with male vocals |

| they don't work because they usually get some queer sounding dude to sing them and then the lyrics are pants to begin with...if we had some talented writers who could sing without sounding like retards then you'd have a winning combo.... |

NuBreed & Luke Chable - One Day
Kevin Aviance - Give It Up (Tony Moran Mix)
Bossanova - Stonecold (Agnelli & Nelson's Afterburn Remix)
BT ft. JC Chasez - Force Of Gravity (DJ Tiesto Remix)
DJ Tiesto ft. BT - Love Comes Again (Mark Norman Remix)
Kane - Rain Down On Me (DJ Tiesto Remix)
Paul Oakenfold - Hold Your Hand (Bill Hamel Remix)
Paul van Dyk ft. Second Sun - Crush (Radio Edit)
Paul Van Dyk ft. Vega 4 - Time Of Our Lives (A Time To Chill Mix) |

Hey why not going with marc et claude feat. Tony Hadle - Feel You ? remember that legendary wippenberg remix, its like waaah :))
male vocals are as good as female vocals, just depends on how they sound |

Male vocals can be great. And don't act like there's never been songs ruined by female vocals. I just think it depends on the song, and like some other people have said, the 'norm' for female vocals. Anyway, since other people are making lists...
The Youngsters - Smile (Sasha's Involver remix)
UNKLE - What Are You To Me (Sasha's Involver remix)
Anything by Underworld, although their vocals are usually a different style than plain singing
Yet Another Day (heh, I liked it, and I'm not exactly an Armin fan)
Josh Gabriel - Alive
It's annoying that sometimes male vocals (e.g. on Alive) are put through so many electronic FX, it just gets rid of the natural emotion and sound quality... It sounds fine on Smile though, but that's just because Sasha is a great producer. |
