a.. Use Regedit.exe to search the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID
portion of the registry for the string associated with the
icon you want to recreate.
b.. Right-click on the 32-character number and choose
Rename. Copy the text to the Clipboard.
c.. Locate
Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversio
n \explorer\desktop\namespace in the registry and choose
Edit\Add Key.
d.. Paste in the 32-character identifier.
In the right-hand pane of REGEDIT, double-click on the
default icon and type the title to be associated with the
desktop icon in the Value data field (eg Recycle Bin).
e.. Log off to make the changes take effect.
[WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause
serious, system-wide problems that may require you to
reinstall Windows] |

clear my desktop once and for all, cause right now the recycle bin's the only thing there:

Here's a hint if you're having problems. Just open the Regedit and delete any old files that have the letters WIN in it. You'll be ready to reinstall fresh files after that.
