'Gothic' game series

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone knew a decent game that's sorta like the same style as Gothic and Gothic 2? I've looked all around, but couldn't find anything that came close to the experience I had with this one.

I already tried 'The Elder Scrolls', though doesn't speak to me at all due to its ugly-looking characters and slow gameplay (you call that running?).

I was also wondering if there was an English version of their Add-On 'Night Of The Raven'? I could only find the German version for it, which is pretty useless for me since I have the full English version of Gothic 2...

Thanks,
Wim

Both of the games in the Gothic series are truly remarkable games, combining both the first person action genre as well as the role playing fantasy genre, I really enjoyed playing both of them.

It really depends on what you are looking for really, if it’s the thrill of exploring a gigantic fantasy world full of quests and deep story then you should really give the Elder Scrolls another go. Also if you don’t mind giving some oldies a try then you should get some games of the Might & Magic series, the best ones are 6,7 and 8. The graphic side in those games might not be the best you can find these days but the story line and the amazing fantasy world are really topping almost every other Role playing game out there.

On the other hand, if what you are looking for is a great graphic engine than I cant really help you, try some of the latest first person shooters or something.

Thanks for the pointers mate. I will have a look at those Might & Magic games. I think I have most recent top FPS games, I was looking for a more adventure-oriented game - though with RPG influences.

I don't like the "The Elder Scrolls" series so far, I think its gameplay sucks compared to the "Gothic" series, which is rather 'flowing'.
I was immediately put off a bit by the looks of the characters in the game - looked straight ugly to me (even for an elf)... I know it seemed like you could be able to increase your speed throughout the game, though at the start... I ran like a baby, which put me off as well since I was running for ages even to get to the house of a neighboor villager... Nothing for me, sorry.

I'm afraid you won't like the M&M series then, its not that much into realistic graphics. Abit more old fashioned kind of graphics there.

Give Morrowind a try mate.

a mate of mine played it, the graphics are not top notch, but still decent indeed.

Took him 3 months or more to finish the game, it is FPS looking but with baldurs gate influence.

Like picking classes, elf, orc etc, and Jobs like thief, or wizard etc.

He said later on when the story progresses you can join guilds in the game and build towns etc.

It's really huge, huge realm, huge story, etc, you need alot of time for it he said.

Yeah, morrowind truly is an amazing game. Definatly the best RPG out there as for this date.
Tell your friend to get the 2 available expansion packs, gives you lots of quality time in front of your computer.

Yeah, heh… doesn’t leave much time for music production after you get addicted to it.
