Hah yeah americanized anime, of course youd like it

Anyway Ive seen Gits 2 Innocence at the Toronto Film Festival about a week ago, Im not going to talk about any plot points, but there still might be some spoilers, so dont scroll down unless you want to risk it.

SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSSS (maybe)

First of all, the art was mindblowing. When I got home after the showing I watched Inuyasha on adult swim to compare and was revolted by the garbage that it is.

The colours, the movement, the shading, the detail on the fore- and background, the CGI...theres this one scene, the parade, that just made me jizz my tighty whities(my close friend the anime animal claims that scene took a year to make). Hell you could turn off the sound and still enjoy the movie.

The dialogue...damn where do I begin. It seems like every third line anyone says is a quote. Maybe its supposed to be cool or something, but to me its just annoying to be hearing Confucius or Sun Tzu over and over again.

The dialogue style also reminds me of Jin Ro, Wolf Brigade. Havent seen Jin Ro? Well let me explain how Jin Ro style dramatic conversation works:

1. Two or more people are standing completely still, staring at nothing.
2. 10 minutes passes with people not moving, staring somewhere.
3. Someone says a line without moving his body or eyes.
4. 10 more minutes of waiting.
5. Someone answers the first person without moving his body or eyes.
6. 10 more minutes of stillness zoomed in on one character's still face.
7. Scene ends

There's really a lot of metaphysical discussion here as well just like in the first one, so be ready to watch it again to get everything.

Now, what really was a pleasant surprise for me is the amount of humour in the movie. It's about time serious anime had some funny in it to take away some tension from the viewer. Maaan, when that bare-assed little girl ran for it I just cracked up, youll know what I mean when you see it in the movie:happy2:.

Plot? It was alright, although I would have wished for something more mind-blowing to fit the mind-blowing art.

My verdict - Go watch it at the movies, and then get it on DVD.

Oh god, do I despise Eva. IMO, that is one of the worst animes I've seen. I just don't understand why everyone loves it so much.

Have you seen the ENTIRE series? I must admit, if you've only seen a few episodes here and there, it really sucks. But once you've watched it all from episode 1-26 and then to have seen both movies as well... forget about it - if you don't like it by then... then you obviously don't like things that are good :p

And if you are initially interested in Anime, watch Cowboy Bebop - it's the most un-anime-ish show out there that has been deemed as an anime :D It's about style and story - always has been with any worthwhile form of entertainment. ;)

Yes I did see all of Eva. My roomate had all of it on DVD, so I'd watch a couple episodes a night til I finished it. I honestly don't know why, but I just didn't like it. *shrug* My least favorite scene of all was where Shinji was leaving (for one of the million times :)) and it just showed him standing at the train station for 10 minutes.... no movement, no dialogue, just secadas in the background. Oh, I wanted to jab out my eyes during that whole seen.

The best parts of Eva were when Shinji went ape, and the penguin. That thing was cool.

And, for the record, I wasn't saying Eva was bad, but just voicing that I didn't like it. :) .Hack//sign is the same way, from what I've read. Either people love it, or hate it. Almost no in between. *shrug*

Hardly :p all the eps were dubbed/subbed

On a sad note, the copy of GITS2 i downloaded was corrupt :(, so no reviews from me...

Kakoroto
Eva is simply the best anime there is followed closely by Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop. Most people that hate Eva usually dont understand it at all. I havent seen them all yet though, as they are hard to come across if you dont have much money.
