Well if you want your things to look pretty on the screen then get the Radeon 9800 pro - It has DVI-S-Video out and can support 2 monitors.

I just finished Doom 3 on it and now playing Far Cry and I havnt seen anything better-

Im running a P4 2.8 gig of ram and the 9800 pro.

your biggest question is what processor chip should you rely on?

amd on intel?

i heard amd is better at gaming.. it processes the graphic transitions about 25% better than intel's chips (p4 XXX) ..

and you got to have mega memory (probably 1+ gigs) for the best gaming environment.

and of course the 9800 .. if you don't want to go for the steep price (since i see you're on a budget) .. find any video card that has it's own cooling system (fan, coolant, etc..)

and a hard drive probably over 80G (if you have a lot of video and music junk, then over 150g) and 7200+ RPM (because you do need a fast hard drive to have optimal performance.

Athlon 64's are faster in games. ;)

for $1200US with 150 in rebates on the way this is my system that i built last week.

AMD 64 3200+, 512k
Abit Kv8 Pro VIA mobo
2x512mb Crucial DDR PC3200
1 Seagate 200GB hd
1 Western Digital 200GB hd
1 Plextor 12x DVD +/- RW black
Geforce 5700LE 256mb
Zalman Heatsink
Antec Lifestyle Sonata case

i would have liked to have the 9800pro but i also wanted to budget this under 1200. i'm sure with 1500 u can get much cooler stuff than me so let this be a guide :)

also, buy stuff on sale, dont buy stuff right away. Always check your local Fry's or any other retailer for special deals. That way even if you only save a little, it will add up as you continue buying components

:) and have fun with this...i did :)
